In pregnancy, what felt right for someone else might not feel right for you.
And this is where so many women start to doubt themselves.
You hear:what friends or family didwhat worked for someone they knowwhat people around you think you should do
And without even realising it, you start second guessing yourself.

Not because you don’t know what you wantbut because there’s too much noise.
This is so common during pregnancywell-meaning advice, stories, and opinions from friends, family, and people around you
and not enough space to hear yourself.

As a birth coach and doula, this is something I see all the time with the women I support.

So what can you do about it?

Try this simple check-in:
Before taking on any advice, pause and ask yourself:Does this feel supportive or stressful?
Do I feel grounded or tense thinking about this?
Would I choose this if no one else suggested it?

Then give yourself permission to trust your answer. And give yourself time to sit with it,you don’t have to decide straight away.

Learning to trust yourself in pregnancy is a huge part of feeling grounded, confident, and prepared for birth.

This is a big part of what I focus on in my childbirth education and pregnancy support.
You’re allowed to choose what feels right for YOU ❤️👉 Save this to come back to when you need it

Have you actually told your partner or support person what you need in birth
or are you hoping they’ll just know?

Whether this is your first baby
or something you’re wanting to approach differently this time

When you feel truly supported in birth, it can help you:
✨ feel more prepared and supported
✨ feel more confident in yourself and your choices
✨ feel more grounded and in control

And it helps your partner or support person too
✨ feel confident in how to support you
✨ feel more involved and connected to the experience

✨ Try this:
Ask yourself
“What helps me feel safe when things feel intense?
Then share that with your partner or support person.

This is where real support begins ❤️
✨ If you’re wanting more support around your mindset and preparing for birth,
I’ve created a free guide:

7 Steps for a Positive Mindset

It’s a simple starting point to help you feel more calm, clear and supported as you prepare for your birth.

If you’ve ever felt like you can’t fully switch off during pregnancy…

even when you sit down…
even when things slow down…

you’re not alone in that.

Your body follows the rhythm it’s used to.

If your days during pregnancy are often:

moving quickly
thinking ahead
holding a lot

your body learns to stay in that pace.
And the same works the other way too.

Small, intentional moments
can begin to show your body something different.

✨ Two simple ways to begin supporting your body during pregnancy:

Throughout your day…

In between parts of your day…

before you move to the next thing…

pause where you are
and place your hand on your belly.

Let your shoulders soften.
Let your body arrive where you are.

Even just for a few seconds.

And gently remind yourself…

👉 I give myself grace here
👉 I allow myself to soften

Not to change anything…
just to notice yourself in that moment.

A small return…
again and again throughout your day.

At the end of your day…

Choose a moment where you begin to slow things down.

Dim the lights
or move into a space that feels softer.

Sit, place your hands on your belly,
and let yourself be there for a few minutes.

You might quietly repeat…

👉 I did enough today
👉 I can let myself rest

No doing.
No fixing.

Just allowing your body to experience a different pace.
Over time…

your body begins to recognise that feeling
and return to it more easily.

And that’s something you carry with you into birth.

Creating a safe space in pregnancy
can become something you return to…

a place
a moment
a feeling

that helps your body soften and settle
even in the middle of busy days…
noise…
life happening around you…

Over time, it becomes something familiar.
Something your body recognises.

It’s the weekend…
you’re pregnant…
and there’s still so much on your plate.

And you’re just getting through what needs to be done.

Things to organise
things and people needing your attention
life still moving around you

And you’re moving through your pregnancy alongside it all.

Does this sound like your weekend… but you’re not sure how to slow it down?

Because something I see often…
is mums moving through their days like this…
without really having a moment to check in with themselves.

And even when you think about preparing for birth…
it’s not always clear how to begin in a way that actually feels supportive.

So it gets pushed to the side.
Or feels like just another thing to do.

But what if it didn’t need to feel like that?

What if, instead of adding more…
you had something simple to come back to.

A way to move through your weekend that includes:

✨ a moment to slow down
✨ a simple self-care ritual
✨ creating boundaries that support you
✨ small mindset shifts that actually feel doable

Not another thing to fit in…
but a place to begin.

So instead of just getting through the weekend…
you begin to feel a little more calm, more supported, and more connected to yourself.

Not just when labour begins…
Your birth team starts with the conversations you have during pregnancy.

The conversations that help you understand how your care team communicates, supports families, and approaches birth.

Because depending on your birth setting, the midwife you see during pregnancy may not always be the one there when labour begins.

That’s why clear conversations during pregnancy matter.

They help you feel heard, informed, and supported as you prepare for birth.

And they create space for you to explore what feels right for you and your baby.

No matter how your baby arrives, feeling heard and supported by your care team matters.

Here are a few questions you might explore with your care provider:

✔ “I’m planning for an active, mobile labour. How is that supported here?”
✔ “I’ve been thinking about the kind of birth experience I want. How do you support women in working toward their birth preferences?”
✔ “If something unexpected arises during birth, how are decisions discussed with me?”
✔ “How are birth partners included so they can actively support the birth?”
✔ “I’ll be bringing my birth preferences. How are these communicated to the team on the day?”
✔ “What helps create a calm and supportive birth environment here?”

These conversations can help you better understand how your birth team works together to support you.

✨ A small practice to try:
Before your next appointment, take a moment to write down 2–3 questions about the birth experience you hope for.

Bringing them with you can help make sure your voice is part of the conversation.

💬 If you could ask your care provider anything about birth, what would it be?

Spending time always fills my cup. Witnessing the huge hearts and generosity here inspires me to keep growing into the best doula I can be.
I feel so grateful that in 2018 I was trained as a doula in Bali by the extraordinary midwife and founder of the Bumi Sehat Foundation, Ibu Robin Lim, alongside Debra Pascali-Bonaro from at . I truly wouldn’t be the doula I am today without their guidance and the continuous lessons I’ve witnessed here about community, kindness, and giving.
Every visit reminds me why birth work matters so deeply. 🤍

How Do You Say No To Someone Who Wants To Be At Your Birth?

As you begin thinking about your birth team, you may find people offering to be there for your birth.
Sometimes it’s a family member or friend who means well, but you might feel unsure if their presence will actually support you during labour.
Birth is a very personal experience, and the people in your space can influence how safe and supported you feel.

➡️Try asking yourself:

• Do I feel relaxed and comfortable around this person?• Will they respect my wishes during birth?• Am I comfortable with them seeing all of my emotions and being in such a personal moment during labour?

These questions can help you decide who feels right to have in your birth space.

If the person offering support is your mother, mother-in-law, sister, or a close friend, you can still include them in a meaningful way outside the birth room.
For example, they could:• Prepare meals or snacks for you• Help organise a postpartum food train• Wash or prepare baby clothes• Help set up your home for when you return with your baby
These roles can be incredibly supportive while still protecting the space you want for your birth.

Your birth team should be made up of people who help you feel safe, respected and supported.
