"Can Meditation Really Make a Difference in the Corporate World? Personal experience.

Bringing meditation into my role as Head of Sales The Entertainment App formerly The Entertainment Book has been a game changer for me. It helps me clear my mind, reduce stress, and sharpen my decision-making skills, which in turn allows me to lead my team with greater clarity & calmness (most of the time! 😂

Meditation also boosts my emotional resilience, helping me handle high-pressure situations and maintain better relationships. This ripple effect is felt across the team, fostering a more supportive and creative work environment. Integrating meditation into my professional life has not only enhanced my personal performance but also contributed to a more balanced and focused atmosphere for everyone. Obviously, I’m still a work in progress, however meditation has had a big positive impact on how I approach my role & team.

Who’s been triggered? đŸ˜«

I know we’re all been there! When you’re triggered, your body responds through the activation of the autonomic nervous system, specifically the “fight or flight” response. This reaction is orchestrated by the release of stress hormones like adrenaline and cortisol. These chemicals prepare your body to deal with perceived threats by increasing heart rate, blood pressure, and energy levels, while diverting resources away from non-essential functions like digestion.
In the “fight or flight” mode, individuals often experience heightened emotional reactivity and impaired judgment. This can lead to negative behaviors such as impulsive reactions, aggressive outbursts, or withdrawal from social interactions. The prolonged activation of this stress response can contribute to chronic stress and related health issues.
Vedic meditation offers a way to manage these triggers effectively. By practicing Vedic meditation, individuals can engage the body’s relaxation response, which counteracts the stress response. This form of meditation encourages deep rest and relaxation, helping to reduce the production of stress hormones and calm the nervous system. Additionally meditation results in the production of chemicals such as dopamine, seratonin, oxytocin (the love hormone) & endorphins all of which combine to make you feel good. Regular meditation practice fosters resilience to stressors, allowing individuals to respond more calmly and thoughtfully when triggered.

For me, the coolest aspect of meditation is how it allows you to transcend the usual waking, sleeping, and dreaming states. Meditation, combined with breath work and visualization, can activate theta and gamma brain waves, linked to deep rest and high-level cognitive functioning. Here’s a brief dive into the science behind Vedic meditation and brain waves:

Alpha Waves (8-12 Hz): Vedic meditation significantly increases alpha wave activity, associated with relaxation and calm. This boost helps reduce stress, improve cognitive function, and enhance emotional resilience.

Beta Waves (12-30 Hz): These are tied to active thinking and problem-solving. While high beta activity can indicate stress, Vedic meditation balances this by promoting relaxation, reducing mental strain, and improving concentration.

Theta Waves (4-8 Hz): Associated with deep relaxation and creativity, theta waves become more active during Vedic meditation, particularly in deeper stages. This promotes emotional processing and access to the subconscious, aiding in creativity and insight.
