Here’s a counter pose for modern life. 😂
From the computer workers with “tech neck” to the breastfeeding mothers who round forward all day.

That tight, achey feeling at the base of your skull? That’s occipital tension, from hours of your head being pulled forward.

After 10 years of doing bodywork on people, I’ve seen time and time again that for many, neck tension sits deep within here. Somewhere around the ridge where your hairline meets your neck. It effects more than just your neck.

Releasing here has a cascade effect down the body:
your jaw will relax, shoulders drop, posture improves and strain behind the eyes eases.
One small movement that can shift everything down the chain.

This post really hit home & resonated. Definitely have deeply been there in the depths of trying to do it all alone and still catch myself there in that mental space from time to time. Can you relate?

In a highly active, driven and energetically masculine world - the state of “doing” often overrides the state of “being”. We learn to thrive in survival/fight or flight mode and at times, it feels as though there’s no other choice as we try to match the pace of what’s around us. We’re highly adaptable and can most often learn to adjust to our surroundings.

Prioritising rest in a society that preaches “hustle culture” could actually be one of the most productive things we do. Consciously allowing ourselves to sit & recharge from the ever growing amount of external stimuli we’re exposed to each day. Regardless if we can sit still for one minute or one hour with ourselves, there’s benefits.

This is really one of the concepts or the “why” behind the Women’s wellness & yoga retreat I’m holding this July. Feel free to DM me for more info if this sounds like something that resonates with you.

Learning to inhabit the body.

By allowing sensations or emotions to come & pass, whether their perceived as good or not so good.

When we don’t suppress & give ourselves
permission to feel, we allow ourselves to heal.

Just to name a few & note, everyone is quite different in their experiences so signs certainly vary from person to person. Here’s a look into signs of nervous system imbalances and how it may affect us on different levels:

Physical signs: nervous tension, muscle tension, digestive issues, sleep disturbances

Emotional signs: mood swings, anxiety, depression, irritability or reacting.

Cognitive signs: persistent worry or feeling fearful, chronic stress, poor memory, difficulty concentrating or focusing.

Rebalancing your nervous system is getting back to a state where you can feel calm and centered; for clear decision making in times of turbulence and for the overall health of the body and mind. Practices such as mindfulness, meditation, conscious movement and breathwork can bring us back into calm and steady states and allow our nervous systems to switch off from high alert.
