Welcome Dr. Hasitha Dissanayake!

Dr Hasitha graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka, in 2007. Following his internship, he gained broad clinical experience across general surgery, internal medicine, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, and emergency medicine, as well as a range of medical and surgical subspecialties.

Since 2013, Dr Hasitha has focused exclusively on general practice, drawn to its diversity and the opportunity to provide comprehensive, holistic patient care. He became an International Member of the Royal College of General Practitioners (UK) in 2017 and was awarded International Fellowship in 2025.

Dr Hasitha has also contributed to medical education as a Lecturer in Human Anatomy at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura and has been involved in a number of research activities.

In 2022, he began practising as a general practitioner in regional New South Wales and has since cared for patients in communities including Narrabri and Tintenbar. He also brings valuable international experience from working in Kuwait during this period.

Dr Hasitha is committed to delivering thorough, patient-centred care, with a strong focus on respecting each patient’s cultural background and individual needs. His special interests include dermatology and skin cancer medicine, chronic disease management, preventive health, and minor surgical procedures.

Dr Hasitha is fluent in English and Sinhalese.

Welcome to the team Dr. Nicole Youssef!

Dr Nicole Youssef is a GP Registrar with a background in Physiotherapy. She has developed strong foundations in musculoskeletal health and the integration of physical, psychological and lifestyle factors playing a key role in her delivery of comprehensive care.

Having grown up in the Victorian Mornington Peninsula, Dr Youssef has always been drawn to Coastal Environments. Alongside her personal interests in teaching, hiking, Pilates and gardening, Dr Youssef enjoys being part of a community that values and prioritizes wellbeing, connections and balance in life.

With interests and experience in areas including Womens Health, Emergency Medicine, Paediatrics, Psychiatry and working in remote areas within Indigenous communities, Dr Youssef looks forward to delivering patient-centred care to her patients of all ages.

Welcome back Dr. Camilla White!

Dr Camilla graduated from James Cook University medical school in 2007. After completing her internship and residency, she went on to work for almost 10 years in Emergency Medicine before switching to General Practice training on the north coast in 2018.
Since then, she has worked as a General Practitioner with a special interest in women’s health. She has completed additional training in managing menopause and perimenopause and is a member of the Australian Menopause Society.

Camilla enjoys all aspects of family medicine including seeing children of all developmental ages and stages and with four children of her own, she has a practical and down to earth approach. She also has a special interest in antenatal and postnatal care, nutrition and lifestyle medicine, and preventative medicine.

With additional studies in Integrative Nutrition and Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Training, Dr Camilla takes a holistic and evidence- based approach to care, supporting patients to make sustainable changes that enhance their overall wellbeing. She is strongly guided by current best practice, and endeavours to ensure patients receive high quality care with a solid evidence base.

Dr Camilla is passionate about empowering individuals to take an active role in their health and is planning further studies with a Master’s in Lifestyle Medicine to continue advancing her integrative approach to modern general practice.

Welcome to the team Dr. Greta Devane!

Dr. Devane graduated with her medical degree from the University of Sydney in 2015 and became a fellow of the RACGP in 2022. She holds additional qualifications in Anaesthetics and Emergency Medicine. Dr. Devane has worked in both metropolitan and rural general practice, as well as indigenous primary health care.

Dr. Devane enjoys caring for patients of all ages, from newborns to the elderly. She has a special interest in lifestyle and preventative medicine, recognising the role that movement, nutrition, sleep and mental wellbeing play in long term health. She works collaboratively with patients to support meaningful changes that delay the onset of chronic disease and improve overall quality of life. She also has special interests in women's health and menopause, and perioperative medicine, drawing upon her anaesthetics experience to help patients prepare for surgery.

Having recently settled in the Northern Rivers with her young family, Dr. Devane is looking forward to making the area home for many years to come.

After studying medicine at the University of Sydney, he trained at Westmead Hospital, gaining hands-on experience in dermatology, paediatric emergency, cardiology and psychiatry.

Pilates for Tweens and Teens

First Light Active provides a dedicated Tween/Teen program which focuses on balance, strength and mobility for young and growing bodies. In this class we incorporate functional and dynamic movement with a strong focus on body awareness for young adults to gain a better understanding of their bodies and discover a better mind-body connection. Teaching the foundations to set them up to feel strong and move with confidence.

Term 2 (29th April - 4th July) 10 weeks
Tuesdays 4.15pm with Anna / Thursdays 4.15pm with Jay
$200 for 1 day or $300 for 2 days

Meet Dr Jamie Ioane! 🌏

Dr Jamie Ioane is a GP registrar with a unique blend of clinical expertise, mental health training, and health innovation. Originally from New Zealand, he specialises in psychogeriatrics, chronic disease management, and preventative health, with a strong focus on holistic, patient-centred care.

Beyond medicine, Dr Ioane is a leader in health tech, advising on AI in healthcare and improving electronic health systems. Passionate about culturally sensitive care, he’s dedicated to supporting diverse communities. Outside of work, he enjoys pickleball, surfing, and time with his partner.

As Cyclone Alfred approaches, we want to keep you informed about our operations at First Light Healthcare Ballina and Byron Bay. For the safety of our patients, practitioners, and staff, our clinics will be closed on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. We plan to resume normal operations on Monday, March 10, weather permitting.​

During this period, we will offer limited telehealth services to ensure you can still access care. To book a telehealth appointment, please visit our website and use our online booking system. ​Link in our bio.
