Byron Escape Fund. V-Day is a global activist movement to end violence against women and girls that raises funds and awareness through benefit productions of Playwright/Founder Eve Ensler’s award winning play The Va**na Monologues and other artistic works. The V-Day movement has raised over $100 million; educated millions about the issue of violence against women and the efforts to end it; crafted international educational, media and PSA campaigns; reopened shelters; and funded over 13,000 community-based anti-violence programs and safe houses in Democratic Republic of Congo, Haiti, Kenya, South Dakota, Egypt, and Iraq. V-Day has received numerous acknowledgements and awards and is, one of the Top-Rated organizations on both Charity Navigator and Guidestar. V-Day’s most recent global campaign, ONE BILLION RISING, galvanized over one billion women and men on a global day of action towards ending violence against women and girls. Vday.org

What are The Va**na Monologues? Hailed by The New York Times as "funny" and "poignant" and by the Daily News as "intelligent" and "courageous," The Va**na Monologues, which was first performed off-Broadway by Ms. Ensler, dives into the mystery, humor, pain, power, wisdom, outrage and excitement buried in women’s experiences. Ensler has performed the play to great acclaim throughout the world - from Zagreb to Santa Barbara, from London to Seattle, from Jerusalem to Oklahoma City. Villard Books/Random House first published The Va**na Monologues, which includes a foreword by Gloria Steinem, in February 1998. A special edition was released in hard cover and paperback in February 2008 in honor of V-Day’s ten year anniversary.

❤️ V-DAY BYRON BAY ❤️

Every Valentine’s Day morning we gather at Main Beach Byron Bay wearing red to stand together against violence towards women and children.

We dance to Break the Chain to raise awareness, start conversations and make a statement that enough is enough.

This is more than a dance.
It is a movement.

A stand for safety, respect, equality and change.

Bring your friends, daughters, mothers, sisters and supporters. Everyone is welcome.

❤️ Wear RED
❤️ Stand together
❤️ Break the Chain
❤️ Be part of the change

Because violence against women and children must end.

Something I’ve noticed more lately, and honestly really admire, is seeing some men stepping up and saying to their mates, “That’s not okay.”

Not in an aggressive way. Not to shame anyone. Just quietly helping shift the culture around the way women are spoken about and treated.

Real change often starts in everyday conversations….in workplaces, sporting clubs, pubs, social groups, and friendships.

Domestic violence against women isn’t just a women’s issue. It’s a community issue. And creating safer communities starts with respect, accountability, and the willingness to speak up when something doesn’t sit right.

As we continue to grow the conversation around our event held every Valentine’s Day at Main Beach Byron Bay, it would be lovely to hear people’s thoughts on the small everyday ways we can all help create change.

What positive changes have you noticed in conversations or attitudes over the years?

💃🌏 V-DAY BYRON BAY – WHY WE RISE 🌏💃

Did you know that V-Day is part of a global movement that began in 1998, using art, activism and community to stand against violence toward women and girls?

Out of this movement came One Billion Rising which was launched on February 14, 2012, inspired by the powerful statistic that 1 in 3 women worldwide will experience violence in their lifetime. That’s over ONE BILLION women and girls.

Every year, on February 14, people across the globe come together to dance, rise and stand in solidarity making it one of the largest mass actions to end violence against women in history.

And right here in Byron Bay… we are part of that global wave.
Gathering at sunrise on Main Beach, we rise together in unity, strength, and hope.

This is more than a dance.
It’s a statement.
A movement.
A call for change.

Yes — it is still happening worldwide, with communities across over 200 countries continuing to rise each year.

Joy is not small.Joy is not trivial.
Joy is resistance.

That is power in motion.

The Sunrise

6:30am. Bare feet on the grass. The first light touching the ocean.

There is something deeply powerful about choosing to rise early for something bigger than ourselves.

This is what Valentine’s Day looks like in Byron Bay.

Would you join us again next year?

❤️ 𝐕-𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐁𝐲𝐫𝐨𝐧 𝐁𝐚𝐲 𝐍𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐬 𝐘𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐇𝐞𝐥𝐩

We’re calling on every woman in the Byron Shire, and across the whole Northern Rivers, to help us spread the word.

On Valentine’s Day each year, women come together dressed in red to DANCE and BREAK THE CHAIN - symbolically breaking the cycle of violence.

We dance to raise awareness, honour survivors, support change, and stand united.

And afterwards… we celebrate our strength with a healing ocean swim.

V-Day is a global activist movement to end violence against all women, girls, and the Earth. It’s powered by everyday grassroots leaders, artists, mothers, daughters, survivors and allies - all calling for change.

👉 Please SHARE this post. The more women who know, the more powerful we become. Let’s make sure every woman in the Northern Rivers knows that she is welcome, included, and needed.
