V-Day Byron Bay are a group of local women making a stand to end violence against women. We create the annual V-Day Byron Flashmob Dance Action on FEB 14th on Main Beach, and after sell out productions of the Va**na Monologues, we have now e-vulva-ed into the more contemporary and original sell out Va**na Conversations, women telling their own Va**na stories. These events are fundraisers for the Byron Escape Fund. V-Day is a global activist movement to end violence against women and girls that raises funds and awareness through benefit productions of Playwright/Founder Eve Ensler’s award winning play The Va**na Monologues and other artistic works. The V-Day movement has raised over $100 million; educated millions about the issue of violence against women and the efforts to end it; crafted international educational, media and PSA campaigns; reopened shelters; and funded over 13,000 community-based anti-violence programs and safe houses in Democratic Republic of Congo, Haiti, Kenya, South Dakota, Egypt, and Iraq. V-Day has received numerous acknowledgements and awards and is, one of the Top-Rated organizations on both Charity Navigator and Guidestar. V-Day’s most recent global campaign, ONE BILLION RISING, galvanized over one billion women and men on a global day of action towards ending violence against women and girls. Vday.org

What are The Va**na Monologues? Hailed by The New York Times as "funny" and "poignant" and by the Daily News as "intelligent" and "courageous," The Va**na Monologues, which was first performed off-Broadway by Ms. Ensler, dives into the mystery, humor, pain, power, wisdom, outrage and excitement buried in women’s experiences. Ensler has performed the play to great acclaim throughout the world - from Zagreb to Santa Barbara, from London to Seattle, from Jerusalem to Oklahoma City. Villard Books/Random House first published The Va**na Monologues, which includes a foreword by Gloria Steinem, in February 1998. A special edition was released in hard cover and paperback in February 2008 in honor of V-Day’s ten year anniversary.

Joy is Power
Joy is not small.Joy is not trivial.
Joy is resistance.

The Sunrise

6:30am. Bare feet on the grass. The first light touching the ocean.

There is something deeply powerful about choosing to rise early for something bigger than ourselves.

This is what Valentine’s Day looks like in Byron Bay.

Would you join us again next year?

❤️ 𝐕-𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐁𝐲𝐫𝐨𝐧 𝐁𝐚𝐲 𝐍𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐬 𝐘𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐇𝐞𝐥𝐩

We’re calling on every woman in the Byron Shire, and across the whole Northern Rivers, to help us spread the word.

On Valentine’s Day each year, women come together dressed in red to DANCE and BREAK THE CHAIN - symbolically breaking the cycle of violence.

We dance to raise awareness, honour survivors, support change, and stand united.

And afterwards… we celebrate our strength with a healing ocean swim.

V-Day is a global activist movement to end violence against all women, girls, and the Earth. It’s powered by everyday grassroots leaders, artists, mothers, daughters, survivors and allies - all calling for change.

👉 Please SHARE this post. The more women who know, the more powerful we become. Let’s make sure every woman in the Northern Rivers knows that she is welcome, included, and needed.

❤️ You are part of the movement. Together we rise.

This event is not connected to V-Day Byron Bay. We are just helping spread word.

Simone McIvor is putting together an International Women’s Day fundraiser on Sunday, March 8th at Coorabell Hall in support of Mākou, a social enterprise I’m in the early stages of building. We collaborate with women to create economic independence, preserve cultural traditions, and develop community-led projects across the Northern Territory, India, Africa, Palestine, and Afghanistan.

Funds raised from this event will go directly toward travel and on-the-ground engagement, letting us take a real grassroots approach: building genuine relationships, working alongside communities, and making sure every dollar has meaningful impact.

Afternoon kicks off with a Welcome to Country ceremony 🌿

More Dance opportunities:

“The Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever– 20 July
Calling all Kates!

I'll be teaching the iconic Wuthering Heights dance on the beach at Brunswick Heads for four Saturdays from *8:00–9:00am*, leading up to the big day on *Sunday 20 July*, when we’ll gather as a *tragedy of Kates* to dance together... somewhere!

* Saturdays, 8–9am on the beach):*
- 24 May
- 14 June
- 28 June
- 12 July

No prior *Kate* experience is necessary — all Kates are welcome! All humans can be a Kate. The dance is only 3 minutes long: a passionate burst of movement that anyone can learn. It’s fine if you can’t make every session. We’ll stretch, move, and enjoy dancing in the sand together.

On *Sunday 20 July*, we’ll don our red dresses, place red flowers in our hair, and waft about with great tragic joy.

*It’s all free — I just fancy it.*

If you'd like to join, contact me to be added to the WhatsApp group. Then you can add other Kates to the group. “
