A resource to learn how yoga, ayurveda, breath work and meditation can help you to manage your Diabe Hello and welcome. I was diagnosed with diabetes in 2008.
At first the doctors weren’t sure whether it was type 1 or 2 as I wasn’t a typical candidate for either type of diabetes. But now I am an insulin dependant type 1 LADA diabetic. I started yoga when I was 17 in high school and by the age of 19 I was hooked. When I started Yoga it was to help my dance career but eventually as my practice progressed I became passionate about the deeper aspects of yoga and its ability to heal and inspire. 30 odd years later I still practice passionately and have been teaching nationally ( in Australia) and internationally since 1992. I am also a mother, a musician, a writer and amateur film maker. I have started this blog to share with the Diabetes online community how yoga has helped me to manage my diabetes. It's so profound to be back in that creative song creation process. And working with a master producer like Kamal Engels today we had a debrief from our session in the studio yesterday and we talked about the arrangement and what elements we might add to the song. It also involved a revisit to one of the lesser known tracks from our EP " One drop of Love" Listening to it again with Kamal today it has all the elements that inspire recognising that this song is more grounded ( 15 years on). Take a few minutes to sit back and listen to this dreamy song and please do share my Gofundme and /or consider a small donation. help me bring this tender song to life and bring some light to these times we find ourselves in. https://gofund.me/0f272952https://subwaybhaktis.bandcamp.com/track/tears-of-the-moon

I couldn't be more grateful to be 23.29% of the way to funding my new song " A Cup of Tea". I would be so delighted if you would share my campaign or donate https://gofund.me/0f272952 Music for me has always been a deeply secret passion. I didn't even know I could write songs until I met Nyck(my ex). Our whole life together was about creating music. We wrote songs together and later documentary soundtracks. When I did a Waldorf educator training in 1999 here in Byron, I discovered I could play the guitar. Thats when music really took off for me and I wrote about 50 songs. When we moved to New York music became devotional...and the rest is history. I feel very fortunate that we had the funds to create our first three albums as the Subway Bhaktis. Now 18 years later it feels very sweet to finally produce my own song and to feel the community's support behind me. I cannot wait to share this song with you...

❤️Self-care and self-responsibility

When I first started yoga at 17 I thought it was all about getting fit, but then as I got older I discovered that yoga was so much more than that. When I was diagnosed in 2008 with LADA, Latent Auto Immune Diabetes in Adults, I wondered if all the things I had learned as a yoga teacher and practitioner had been a waste. Why hadn’t yoga cured me? It took me 6 years and a ton of soul searching to discover I’d been looking at things from the wrong perspective.
Yoga hadn’t failed me it had saved me. It was because of yoga’s healing practices that I am able to keep being sensitive to insulin, sleep well, have a ton of energy and most importantly, the courage and strength to stay positive and creative no matter what diabetes throws at me.
I invite you to join me on my blog www.yogafordiabetesblog.com where I share yoga practices to support you to experience a deep and lasting transformation, musings and so much more.
