NATUROPATHY CONSULTS AVAILABLE 🌿

I come across a lot of people struggling with their health. From physical health concerns, emotional distress and mental exhaustion. The commonality between everyone I see if that they just want to feel heard and want to feel better.

If you’re feeling like 💩, have been told your blood 🩸 tests are just fine and know there’s got to be answers as to why you’re experiencing particular symptoms, then I’d love to help support you.

I have several different consult options available to match different needs which you can see on the slides above.

If you are curious about a Naturopathic session, I offer free 10 minute discovery calls to have a quick chat to work out if I’m the right practitioner for you and your health needs.

Send me a message if you’d like more information or to book a consult 😊

I’m very behind in my farewell 2024, welcome 2025 Instagram post… but here we are👋🏽

Here’s a few random pics from the last few weeks of relaxo festive time 😊

2024 was a wild ride for me, both personally and professionally. Moving in with my partner, moving states (20 minutes north ⬆️, but still counts), moving clinics, changing jobs, visiting family and having fun little trips away ✈️.

It was also a year full of extra learning 📖

From Master Course in Pathology Diagnostics 🩸, learning the latest in nutritional medicine research with the Nutrient Prescribers Program (Tip. bigger doses is not better), to becoming a “Co-biome Microbiome Guardian” after undertaking a mentorship with Co-biome and learning all of the ins and outs of our gut microbiome 🦠.

The extra training gave me more competence and confidence as a health practitioner and my clinic became quite busy, with clients seeking support for all types of health concerns. A major part of my consults included analysing bloods, microbiome reports and other functional tests and I was shocked on many occasions and reminded as to the cliched notion of why you should “test and not guess” (another post will go into this further).

I’m looking forward to what 2025 will bring, another busy year in clinic with some prioritised downtime amongst it all for balance.

A couple of things I learnt in 2024 to bring forward with me.

The importance of work boundaries - I realised that my work boundaries were lacking - this led to after hours texts, emails and social media replies, unpaid invoices, watching webinars until bed time and an inability to switch off from work mode some nights which was leading to burnout.

Another thing I realised was how much I had let my health slip in the second half of the year, I was being very productive and in such a work zone that I was prioritising clients health over my own, and spending my spare time reviewing bloods instead of being active or taking some downtime.

So this year I’m prioritising more balance and greater boundaries within all areas of life. ⚖️

These are the results from one of my clients MetaXplore tests, shared with permission.

This client presented with digestive issues which commenced after contracting a Clostridium difficile infection which led to several months of antibiotics.

She had been experiencing debilitating gastrointestinal issues including chronic diarrhoea (up to 8 times a day), loss of appetite, 30kg weight loss, malnutrition, reflux and food intolerances. She had seen many specialists and had been trialled on different medications with little change.

The results of the test were significant.

* Very low microbiome diversity and richness with some not-so-great species dominating
* Low secretory IgA
* High propionate producing microbes
* High BCAA producing microbes
* High TMA producing microbes
* High hydrogen sulphide producing microbes
* Low butyrate producing microbes
* High ammonia producing microbes
* Low GABA producing microbes
* Low Vitamin K producing microbes

These markers indicate gut dysbiosis, intestinal and systemic inflammation, higher risk factor for cardiovascular issues, lowered first line defence of the gut, faster transit time, impaired intestinal barrier integrity.

Our short term focus has been to increase the diversity and richness of the microbiome, while reducing inflammation and improving barrier integrity.

To do this, I’m utilising prebiotic fibres, dietary interventions (reduced red meat to lower the TMA levels), herbal medicine for inflammation and digestive support and a particular probiotic indicated to increase IPA microbes and secretory IgA.

We will do a retest in a few months to check in how everything is going.

The testing gives insight into things we would have no idea about on the surface level and helps guide the treatment direction.

Until the end of October, I have access to a 10% discount off the MetaXplore testing range.

Message if you would like more information, or comment below if you want to know more about individual markers and what they mean 🦠

Macrocarpa 🌺

This beautiful flower belongs to the Eucalypt family and is found in the South West of Western Australia. It is the largest flower of any of the Eucalypts.

As a flower essence this remedy is used for endurance, for when you are feeling physically and mentally drained and worn out.

It helps strength the adrenals, aids in convalescence and creates inner strength and enthusiasm.

❕Kidney health❕

It has been overlooked for a long time and was thought of as an “older” person issue.

CKD or chronic kidney disease is on the rise and is affecting younger people. It is often very silent until symptoms start appearing at Stage 3 or 4.

In Australia it affects 1 in 10 Australians, with those most at risk being the elderly, First Nations people, those in remote regions and lower socioeconomic demographics.

GFR is the standard marker that’s looked at to detect kidney dysfunction, however this often won’t be picked up until you’re under 60 at stage 3 of CKD.

Signs can be picked up a lot sooner then this if you know what to look out for

• Abnormally high urea and creatinine markers - which aren’t matching your protein consumption or muscle mass
• Increasing Uric acid/urate (this happens after the above)
• High albumin
• Low bicarbonate

These are optimal ranges and not reference ranges. It can be an idea to look at your results over several years to see the change. Fasted and rested is the most accurate way to test bloods.

There are certain lifestyle factors I’ve listed on the slides that can put you more at risk.

Other nephrotoxic medications (that aren’t listed in the slides) should be monitored with regular kidney function checks including

* Antivirals and antibiotics
* Immunosuppressants
* Non-NSAID Analgesics
* Cardiovascular medication
* Diabetes medication
* Pain medications

There are many things that can be done before getting to Stage 4, though ideally you would want to pick these up well before that stage. Some recommendations not listed listed on the slides include

• Keeping well hydrated
• An anti inflammatory or Mediterranean style diet and reduced processed foods
• Reducing oxalates which are high in beetroot, carrot and celery juice (hello medical medium)
• Adequate protein as amino acids are very important, but not over consuming (protein is reduced from stage 3)
• Reducing oxidative stress (antioxidants and Polyphenols for the win 🫐)

Reach out if you’re wanting to check how your kidneys are looking or if you‘re wanting to work on any other preventative health measure.

So what even is Naturopathy I hear you asking? 🤨

This can be quite an in-depth answer to what seems a basic question 🤔

Naturopathy is a traditional and complementary form of medicine to support wellness, restore health and prevent disease 🦠.

The holistic nature of Naturopathic medicine focuses on all aspects of health, including physical, mental and emotional health and acknowledges the role of diet, lifestyle, social and environmental factors that may be impacting your health.

We look at the root causes of health conditions and aim to restore homeostasis through identifying and removing/modifying risk factors that are impeding your bodies innate healing mechanism.

Integrative Naturopaths utilise pathology and other functional testing alongside comprehensive case taking to gain further insight as to what’s going on for you and what is required to bring you back to optimal health. We may also work alongside your GP or other health care providers as Naturopathic care can complement allopathic medicine beautifully.

I use a combination of standard blood tests 🩸, microbiome stool testing 💩, salivary hormones, hair tissue 💇‍♂️ mineral analysis testing in clinic, this all depends on the persons needs and finances; a lot can still be done without expensive testing.

Qualified Naturopaths in Australia undertake a 4 year Bachelor of Health Science degree 📜, the subjects include a lot of science based subjects like biology, chemistry, pathology, pharmacology, nutritional biochemistry. Alongside countless herbal and nutritional medicine subjects. We also are required to be part of an association, have indemnity and liability insurance for the safety and care of our clients as well as undertake continued professional development training every year.

If you are following health influencers on Instagram or getting advice from health coaches, be mindful of their qualifications and background. Harm can be done with generic health suggestions and supplement pushing without taking into consideration your particular health conditions or medications.

Send me a message if you’re keen to know more about Naturopathy and how I can help you.
