🎉 Happy OT Week 2025! 🎉

This year’s theme is “Occupational Therapy in Action” — and we’re proud to celebrate the incredible work of our OT's who bring this to life every day 💙

At Leaps and Bounds, we see that action every single day through the incredible work of our amazing OT’s Lucy and Issy.

Lucy and Issy don’t just support individuals — they walk alongside families, helping them navigate challenges, celebrate milestones, and reach their unique goals with heart and hope. Whether it’s building routines, fostering independence, or unlocking new possibilities, they bring warmth, wisdom, and a whole lot of love to every step of the journey 💫

We’re so proud to celebrate these two amazing therapists who make a real difference in the lives of the families we serve.

🌟 Feeding Therapy Fun with Amelia 🌟

Today’s session with Speech Therapist Ranita was all about helping Amelia explore new food textures in a playful, low-pressure way.

Amelia’s been working hard to build comfort around unfamiliar foods — especially those that feel, look, or smell different, which can be really overwhelming for her.

Ranita is using the SOS Approach to Feeding, a fantastic program that helps kids with feeding challenges through a step-by-step, play-based method. If you're curious, here's a great link to learn more: https://sosapproachtofeeding.com/

One of our goals is to help Amelia start drinking milk, as she currently avoids it completely. So instead of asking her to drink it right away, Ranita got creative… and made playdough! 🥣💙
They mixed flour, milk, and blue food colouring — and Amelia LOVED it! She called it “Stitch Playdough” (she’s a big Stitch fan 🐾) and had so much fun squishing and mixing.
This was a huge win, especially since she’s previously been uncomfortable with food touching her skin.

Every little step counts, and today was a joyful one 💪💙

WE'RE SO PROUD OF YOU DECLAN! 🙌

This past weekend, our client Declan competed at the WHEELCHAIR RUGBY NATIONAL LEAGUE Sunshine Coast Clash at Caloundra Indoor Sports Centre and there was no chance his Physiotherapist Ellen was going to miss out on the action!!

It is unbelievable to think that only just over 5 years ago, Declan was a typically developing boy, who suffered a spinal cord injury, due to a malformation in his heart that became lodged into his spinal cord, leaving him a Tetraplegic with no feeling in his body from his chest down.

After multiple life-saving neurosurgeries and years of rehabilitation, his achievements are a testament to his pure grit and determination, combined with the steadfast love and unwavering support of his family. 💚

A huge thank you to Paralympian Ryley Batt for being such an advocate and inspiration to future sports stars just like Declan.

You better believe that Declan will be bringing those 'big guns' of his to the world stage in the coming years! Keep your eye out for him! 🥇🥇🥇

World Gratitude Day is a beautiful reminder to pause and reflect on the people and moments that fill our hearts. This Sunday, 21st September, the World comes together to celebrate the beauty of gratitude—and we’re here for it!

At Leaps and Bounds Disability, we’re overflowing with gratitude—for our incredible clients, the families we walk alongside, and the relationships we nurture every single day.

💙 Each milestone reached, each goal achieved, is a shared victory. Whether it's a first word shared, a new skill mastered, or a moment of confidence blossoming—we are honoured to be part of these journeys.
The trust our families place in us is something we never take for granted.

🙌 To our clients: thank you for inspiring us with your courage, resilience, and joy. You remind us daily why we do what we do.

Today, we’re asking—what are you grateful for? Whether it’s a small moment or a big breakthrough, we’d love to hear what fills your cup.

This past August, the team at Leaps and Bounds Disability Services, proudly celebrated the strength, resilience, and joy of those living with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). One of our radiant clients, Chanae, lives with SMA, and she lights up every single session with her infectious smile and boundless positivity. Her spirit continues to inspire us in the most profound ways.

In one of her recent appointments with our amazing physiotherapist Steph, Chanae was fitted for a brand-new power wheelchair—an exciting step toward greater independence and mobility. We also had the joy of celebrating her upcoming birthday, making the moment even more special!

SMA is a rare genetic condition that affects the motor neurons in the spinal cord—those vital cells responsible for muscle movement. As these neurons deteriorate, individuals experience progressive muscle weakness and atrophy, impacting essential functions like walking, swallowing, and even breathing.

Throughout the month, we joined the global SMA community in raising awareness, sharing stories, and celebrating progress. If you'd like to continue learning and supporting, we encourage you to follow 'Fight with Chanae against SMA' on social media.

Let’s keep the momentum going—spreading awareness, fostering inclusion, and uplifting the incredible SMA community. 💜

🎉 Celebrating Speech Pathology Week 2025🎉

This week, we honour the incredible work of speech pathologists and the life-changing impact they have on individuals and communities across Australia. With the theme “Impact Through Communication,” each day shines a light on how communication—and safe swallowing—shapes our lives, from building relationships to fostering independence and wellbeing.

💬 Did you know that 1.2 million Australians live with a communication disability, and many more experience difficulties with swallowing? Speech pathologists support people of all ages to find their voice, express their needs, connect with others, and eat and drink safely ; essential for health, dignity, and quality of life.

Here’s how we’re celebrating this week at Leaps and Bounds:
🌟 Day 1: Connection through communication and mealtimes
🌟 Day 2: Confidence through communication and safe swallowing
🌟 Day 3: Inclusion through communication and participation
🌟 Day 4: Empowerment through communication and choice
🌟 Day 5: Opportunity through communication and access
🌟 Day 6: Wellbeing through communication and nutrition
🌟 Day 7: Independence through communication and self-care

Let’s raise awareness, spark conversations, and celebrate the power of communication. Whether it’s a child saying their first word, an adult regaining speech after injury, or someone learning to swallow safely again—speech pathologists make it possible.

🎉Celebrate Speech Pathology Week with us by sharing your inspiring stories about our amazing Speech Pathologists at Leaps and Bounds—let’s highlight the impact they make every day! 🎉
