Can I use my NDIS funding for a gym membership?
Short answer: sometimes, but not in the way most people think.
The NDIS doesn’t fund gym memberships for general fitness.
But if it’s clearly linked to your disability and capacity building, it can be funded.
For example:
✅ A program designed by a physio or exercise physiologist
✅ Hydrotherapy for mobility, pain, or recovery
✅ Structured support to build strength and independence
What usually won’t be funded:
❌ A standard gym membership
❌ General group fitness classes
The key question the NDIS asks is:
Does this support help you manage your disability beyond what’s considered “everyday”?
This is where people get stuck.
It’s often not about the activity itself, it’s about how it’s recommended, documented, and justified.
That’s where support coordination comes in. We help you understand what’s reasonable and what evidence you need to actually get it across the line.
