I’m not the biggest fan of the old jar sauce but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do and if that’s the case give your money to Aussie farmers ✌️ Is Lego’s the one that has organic sauces now too?
Here’s why Leggo's gets my vote. As the percentage of ‘Australian grown’ ingredients in many brands gets smaller and smaller, Leggo's remains steadfast in their commitment to Australian grown.
Dolmios (who are owned by Mars) have gone from 70% Australian ingredients down to being less than 10% (so could just be a 1% local basil or added ‘Australian’ water 🤷♀️).
And let’s be honest about the taste over the years…it’s made that Dolmio grin turn into a Dolmio grimace 😬 (ah man, Dolmio are going to hate me for that one)(I haven’t had a cease and desist letter in awhile, I think I’m due for another!)
This Leggo's pasta sauce is 98% Australian grown. Their tomato paste is 100% Australian grown (which gets the rare ‘Product of Australia’ title)
In 1995, Leggo’s was bought by Simplot Australia which is a subsidiary of the American company - J R Simplot. So it’s not 100% Australian owned.
Would it be better if Leggo's was still wholly Australian owned, yeah it would. But does it really matter when this company continues to make an exceptional commitment to supporting Australian farmers and investing in Australian manufacturing, nah not really.
The goal of is to make easy, ‘do-able’ changes that will – collectively -make a difference. This swap will do that, so let’s focus on what we can do and hopefully it sends a message to other companies to keep their head in the game or we walk!!
