We will be closed on Saturday 25th April for ANZAC Day as we pause to honour the courage, sacrifice and service of our veterans and those who continue to serve.

We encourage our community to take a moment of reflection or join the Cairns Dawn Service (5:30am, Cenotaph) or Parade (7:30am from Fogarty Park).

Lest we forget.

🛫On the Road… with Brad — this time we are in Pormpuraaw, working with the incredible team at the State School to refresh their First Aid + CPR skills.

Always a privilege to support remote communities where these skills truly matter.

Pormpuraaw sits on the edge of the Edward River, known for its rich Wik and Kugu culture, vibrant art centre, and those unreal Gulf sunsets.

Grateful for the welcome and the chance to help keep the community safer and stronger!

Updated recommendations now highlight emerging evidence around slowing tissue damage while urgent medical care is being sought for button battery ingestion.

Research shows that giving 2 teaspoons of honey every 10 minutes (or jam for children under 12 months) may help slow the burn process after suspected ingestion — but only while on the way to hospital.

This does not treat the injury or replace medical care. It simply buys time in a situation where every minute matters.

The updated guidance reinforces that:
• Button battery ingestion is a medical emergency.
• Children require urgent hospital assessment.
• Removal must be performed as quickly as possible by medical professionals.

🚨National Poison Prevention Week

Button batteries are small, shiny and incredibly tempting to little ones — but they’re also one of the most dangerous items a child can swallow.

When swallowed, a button battery can become lodged in the oesophagus and cause internal burns very quickly. This a time critical emergency.

Even “flat” or “dead” batteries can still cause harm.

If you suspect a child has swallowed a button battery, act immediately. Early action can reduce the severity of injury.
