🙏🏻🚨 Important Update for NDIS Parents and Caregivers – New NDIS 2.0 Changes 🚨🙏🏻
Starting October 3rd, 2024, the new NDIS 2.0 legislation will be rolled out across Australia. This brings significant changes to how supports and funding are managed for your child or loved one.
The new framework introduces stricter criteria for accessing and maintaining NDIS supports, and the impact on plan reviews and funding requests will be considerable.
Below are the key updates you need to know: 👇🏽
🚨Tighter Funding Control: 🚨
Families and participants must now manage NDIS funding even more carefully, as funds will need to cover the entire plan period. It will be more difficult to adjust funding allocations or request additional funding within the plan’s duration. Careful planning is essential to ensure that the existing budget meets your child’s or loved one’s needs for the full term.
🎯 Age Increase for Early Intervention: 🎯
The age limit for Early Intervention services has now been extended to 9 years under NDIS 2.0. However, remaining engaged with the Scheme after a child turns 9 will require exponential evidence that the child has a Significant Lifelong Disability to continue receiving NDIS funding. This means you must provide strong, detailed evidence demonstrating that their needs cannot be met through any other service system.
🚨 Significant Push for Transferral of Supports to Government-Funded Services: 🎯
There will be a substantial push for families to utilise Government-Funded Health Supports wherever possible, even if these supports are not readily available in your local area. This presents a challenge, especially for families in regions where such supports are limited. Therefore, it is critical that you provide comprehensive and detailed evidence during the NDIS plan reassessment to demonstrate why your child’s or loved one’s supports must be funded by the NDIS and not by another system, such as health or education services.
🚨 Increased Burden of Proof: 🚨
To remain engaged with the NDIS after February 2025, you must provide detailed evidence of your child’s specific challenges based on their functional limitations (e.g., communication, mobility, self-care). By February 2025, all NDIS participants will be required to submit comprehensive reports from relevant, qualified Allied Health Professionals as part of the eligibility reassessment process.
🎯Maximizing the Chances of Remaining Eligible with the New NDIS, and Receiving Essential Funded Support will absolutely REQUIRE: 🎯
To maximize your chances of securing the necessary funding for supports, all recommendations must:
- Clearly address your child’s disability-related needs.
- Appropriately delineate: "How does your loved one's disability, and the support they require, affect their functional abilities to reasonably engage in daily life tasks and activities compared to their same-aged peers?"
- Consider the child’s ability to engage in tasks independently, participate in social and economic activities, communicate, learn, perform self-care, maintain safety, and manage tasks overall.
🚨 You must ensure: 🚨
- The supports requested are most appropriately funded by the NDIS under the new 2.0 legislation.
- No other service provider (e.g., health or education) is responsible for providing these services or supports.
- The supports directly relate to the specific disabilities identified by the NDIS during reassessment.
🚨All Plan Recommendations Must Be Evidence-Based: 🚨
Each recommendation must clearly demonstrate how the support will:
- Benefit your child’s daily functioning.
- Increase their independence.
- Lead to positive long-term outcomes.
The predicted outcomes must be clearly stated, showing how the proposed supports will lead to functional improvements, greater independence, and enhanced social or economic participation. To ensure continued funding for your child’s supports, all recommendations must:
- Address the specific disability-related needs.
- Help achieve functional goals, improve independence, and promote participation in social and economic activities.
- Provide value for money, ensuring cost-effectiveness of the proposed supports.
🎯 Final Note: 🎯
It is essential to stay informed and work closely with your NDIS planner or therapist to ensure that all documentation provided during reassessment is thorough and supports your child’s needs. Failing to provide this comprehensive evidence may jeopardize the continued provision of necessary supports from the NDIS.
If you have any questions or require further assistance, guidance or support regarding these changes, or to arrange an Updated FCA Report prior to yours or your loved one’s Scheme Eligibility Reassessment Interview (Which I have been advised will be completed by ALL NDIS Scheme Participants presently enrolled in the Scheme, as of October 2nd, 2024, by Mid February, 2025) please don’t hesitate to reach out to our Admin to arrange an appointment.
