Somehow it’s already Week 2 of Term 4… and before we know it, we’ll be counting down to Christmas! 🎄😅

But before we get too far ahead, we had to share a look back at our GAME ON! group programs from the September school holidays!

Four days filled with fun, teamwork, socialising, problem-solving, and (of course) learning through play. 🎯✨ Here’s a little peek at what our friends got up to — and word on the street is this new group was a total hit!

Looks like GAME ON! will be back soon!

🔬✨ Throwback to our Super Scientists group! ✨🔬

This was one of our most popular programs – a mix of fun, friendship and hands-on learning. Children explored experiments, measured, made predictions, and built their vocabulary while having a great time together. 💡🧪

We loved seeing so many little sprouts connect, laugh and learn. 💚

👉 Would you like to see Super Scientists return? Let us know in the comments!

🗣️✨ Expressive Language – Using Words to Communicate ✨🗣️

Expressive language is how children use words, phrases and sentences to share their thoughts, needs and ideas. Building these skills helps with conversation, learning and connection.

Here are some simple ways to support expressive language at home:
✨ Model words – if your child says “car,” you can say, “Yes, a red car!”
✨ Offer choices – “Do you want apple or banana?”
✨ Pause and wait – give them time to respond instead of jumping in.
✨ Narrate your day – talk about what you’re doing together, like “We’re washing hands.”
✨ Encourage pretend play – role-play with dolls, animals or cooking sets.

Every little conversation helps your child’s voice and confidence grow. 🌱

🧠👂 Receptive Language – Understanding Words 👂🧠

Receptive language is all about how children understand words, sentences and instructions. Strong receptive skills are the foundation for talking, learning, and making sense of the world.

Here are some easy ways to support receptive language at home:
✨ Give simple instructions – “Get your shoes” or “Put the cup on the table.”
✨ Add gestures – point or show as you talk.
✨ Read together – pause and ask your child to find things in the pictures.
✨ Play sorting games – “Can you find all the animals?” or “Put the blocks in the box.”
✨ Repeat and expand – if your child looks at a dog, you can say, “Yes, a big brown dog!”

Small everyday moments make a big difference in helping your child learn to understand and respond to language. 🌱

Every term, we pause the busyness of clinic life for a team day – and it’s always one of the highlights at Small Sprouts.

These days give us time to:
✨ Connect with each other
✨ Reflect on the term that’s just finished
✨ Plan and set goals for the term ahead
✨ Build stronger relationships as a team
✨ Review our policies and processes
✨ Celebrate what worked well and explore what we can improve

It’s a day filled with good conversations, laughs, and plenty of ideas – helping us grow together so we can keep giving our best to the children and families we support. 🌸

Our last team day? Definitely a batch made in heaven. 🍪

👀✨ Let’s Talk About Joint Attention ✨👀

Joint attention is when you and your child share focus on the same thing – like looking at a toy, pointing to a bird, or reading a book together.
It’s an important skill for building language, learning and connection. 💚

Here are some easy ways to support joint attention at home:
🌟 Follow your child’s lead – join in with what they’re looking at or playing with.
🌟 Use pointing, gestures, or eye gaze to share attention.
🌟 Read books together – point to pictures and comment on them.
🌟 Play “I see…” games (e.g., “I see a car!” and wait for your child to notice).
🌟 Share simple routines – like watching bubbles float, or stacking blocks.

Every shared look, smile, or “wow!” moment helps your child’s communication grow. 🌱

👩‍🍳🧑‍🍳 Cooking Together = Talking Together 🥞🍓

We have had so much fun in Cooking Club over the years. This is a throwback to our first ever Cooking Club!

Spending time in the kitchen is more than just making food – it’s a fun way to support your child’s speech, language and communication skills.

While cooking, children get to:
✨ Hear and follow everyday instructions (“stir the bowl,” “wash the apple”)
✨ Learn new words for foods, utensils and actions
✨ Chat, ask questions and take turns in conversation
✨ Understand sequences like 'first we mix, then we bake'
✨ Explore early reading by looking at recipes or labels

The best part? It doesn’t need to be fancy! Here are some easy ideas to get you started: fruit salad, piklets, scones and bliss balls. YUM!!!
