The Toilet Song! 💖 💩 💖

As a youth and child health nurse, I know that toilet training can be a stressful time, for both parent and child. Making up songs or games can help to build confidence and instil a positive attitude towards a childs first major step towards body autonomy.

Much of toilet training and childhood continence relays on certain physiological developments involving the muscles, sphincter’s and nerves the relay information from the bladder and bowel, back to the brain.

Did you know that for many children, the neural pathways don’t fully mature until 2-3 years of age. So be patient.

And if you do have concerns, reach out to your local Community Heath Service. There are nurses and specialists trained in continence who are waiting to help you.
