If you’re feeling out of balance but not sure where to begin, this is a supportive place to start.

Our health assessment looks at key areas including digestion, hormones, nervous system health and nutrition to help highlight where your body may need support.

It’s a simple, thoughtful first step. No guesswork, no overwhelm.

People often expect supplements to be the starting point.

Sometimes, targeted supplements are required early, particularly for complex, acute or highly symptomatic presentations and that is part of appropriate clinical care.

However, food, digestion and lifestyle are always addressed alongside this, because these determine how well the body can actually respond to any support.

Without strong foundations, supplements may provide short-term relief, but results are rarely lasting.

Nutrition isn’t about quick fixes.
It’s about creating the conditions for the body to function, adapt and heal.

If you’d like to understand this approach in more detail, I’ve created a complimentary Pillars of Health eBook that explains how food, digestion, lifestyle and nervous system support work together.

I’ve shared this approach in my complimentary 7 Pillars of Health eBook — available via the pop-up on my website homepage: shimmer health.com.au

It’s so easy to fall into the idea that one supplement will fix everything, especially when social media, podcasts, friends or influencers promise fast results.

The truth is, supplements can be helpful…
but only when they’re used for the right reason, at the right time, for the right body.

Before asking “What supplement should I take?”
Try asking:
• How well am I actually eating?
• Am I supporting my digestion?
• Am I sleeping well and managing stress?
• Am I fuelling my body consistently?

Food and lifestyle are the foundation.
Supplements are the support > not the solution on their own.

Rebuilding health isn’t about restriction or perfection.

It often starts with:
• eating regularly and adequately
• increasing nutrient density
• supporting digestion and absorption
• reducing physiological stress

As nourishment improves, the body begins to:
• produce energy more efficiently
• stabilise blood sugar
• regulate inflammation
• improve resilience and recovery

This process looks different for everyone because physiology is individual.

But the principle is the same:
when the body is supported, it moves toward balance.

When someone feels depleted, inflamed or hormonally out of balance, the temptation is often to look for a quick fix.

But the body doesn’t heal through shortcuts, it heals through consistent foundational support.

Energy production, hormone balance, gut integrity and inflammation control all rely on the same core inputs:
• adequate micronutrients
• stable blood sugar
• nervous system support
• nourishment the body can recognise

Without these foundations, protocols and supplements can only do so much.

This is why lasting change is rarely dramatic it’s built gradually, as the body regains the resources it needs to function properly.

Foundations first.
Then everything else works better.

Out of office this weekend.
I’m taking a short break for some solitude in nature to reset and recharge.
The clinic will reopen Wednesday 28th January.
Wishing you a beautiful long weekend!

Gut symptoms are rarely just about digestion.

The gut plays a central role in nutrient absorption, immune regulation and inflammatory balance. When diets are low in nutrient density or diversity, the gut can struggle to maintain integrity and resilience.

Over time, this may show up as:
• bloating or discomfort
• altered bowel habits
• food sensitivities
• low-grade inflammation

Even with adequate calorie intake, insufficient micronutrients and fibre can impair gut function and contribute to systemic inflammation.

Supporting the gut starts with real food, diversity and nourishment the body can recognise, not restriction.

Hormones don’t work in isolation.

They rely on adequate micronutrients, stable blood sugar and nervous system support to be produced, converted and cleared effectively.

Minerals and B-vitamins act as cofactors in hormone synthesis, adrenal signalling and thyroid function. When these nutrients are marginal, hormonal communication becomes less efficient even if hormone levels appear “normal” on paper.

This is why symptoms such as:
• low energy
• poor stress tolerance
• disrupted sleep
• mood changes

can persist despite eating regularly or doing “all the right things”.

Hormonal health is built on foundations and nourishment is one of the most important.

Brain fog and cravings often travel together and it’s not a coincidence.

Both are closely linked to blood sugar regulation and nervous system signalling, which rely heavily on adequate micronutrient availability.

Minerals and B-vitamins are required as cofactors and substrates for key biochemical pathways involved in glucose metabolism, neurotransmitter production and stress response. When these nutrients are marginal, the body struggles to maintain stable energy and mental clarity.

In response, the brain looks for quick fuel.
Cravings increase. Focus drops. Stress feels harder to manage.

Even when someone is eating regularly, or eating “clean”, this pattern can persist if the body isn’t receiving or utilising the nutrients required to support these pathways effectively.

Foods closest to nature provide micronutrients that work synergistically, supporting blood sugar balance, cognitive function and nervous system resilience together, not in isolation.

This is why nourishment changes how people feel, not just what they eat.

Ongoing fatigue isn’t always about how much you eat, it’s about what your body can use.

Even when someone eats well, underlying disruptions in biochemical pathways can limit how nutrients are converted into energy.

Energy production is a biochemical process that depends on micronutrients such as B-vitamins, magnesium, iron and zinc. These nutrients act as cofactors and substrates in mitochondrial pathways that convert food into usable energy.

The body is incredibly intelligent and can temporarily compensate by rerouting processes through alternative pathways. However, this adaptation does not resolve the underlying issue, it simply helps the body cope for a period of time.

When these pathways remain under-supported, fatigue, poor stamina and reduced resilience often persist even when calorie intake appears sufficient.

This isn’t a personal failing.
It’s a signal that the body needs deeper nourishment.

Many modern diets easily meet calorie needs, yet quietly miss micronutrients.

Ultra-processed foods are energy-dense, but often nutrient poor. This means the body may be getting enough fuel, but not enough of the vitamins, minerals, fibre and phytonutrients it needs to function optimally.

Over time, this can show up as symptoms many people normalise:
-persistent fatigue
-cravings (especially sugar or refined carbs)
-brain fog or poor concentration
-low resilience to stress

Not because the body is “failing” but because it’s under nourished.

Foods closest to nature provide far more than calories.
They contain numerous micronutrients (vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients) that act synergistically as cofactors and substrates, enabling essential biochemical reactions involved in energy production, blood sugar regulation, nervous system signalling and inflammatory balance.

When these nutrients are missing or marginal, these pathways cannot function optimally, even when calorie intake is sufficient.
