REMEMBER TO ALWAYS EMPOWER OTHERS!
Here is a little info in regards to ADHD for those interested:
ADHD is a neurological disorder that effects embryonic brain development in an area of the midbrain from the cortex to the cortical limbic. It is largely genetic, and incurable.
ADHD occurs in more than 20% of the human population, and across all races and cultures. So it seems then that ADHD has been with us a very long time, and that it was perhaps once a very useful adaptive brain to have.
ADHD does not determine intelligence, however some research suggests that higher intelligence is more common among those with ADHD. Furthermore, creative solution oriented problem solving appears to be a common strength among many with ADHD. So it’s not all bad with ADHD.
ADHD is said to be one of the most life impairing yet treatable neurological disorders. ADHD medications, in the right chemical-dosage combination, can successfully address ADHD symptoms in around 90% of cases. However, there is still much that is as yet under-researched.
It is known that the area of the brain that is impaired is responsible for Executive Function - working memory, planning and organisation, time awareness, attention and focus, sustained concentration, performance-reward, motivation, and object permanence.
Deficits in executive functions are unfortunately commonly the basis of judgement and ridicule by those who do not understand the neurology of ADHD, and blame the person with ADHD personally for not being able to successfully or adequately perform them.
It’s a shame that too many people who know virtually nothing about neurology and brain health refuse to accept that there can be hidden physical brain impairments that impact executive performance, but not other brain functions, and instead prefer to believe that people with ADHD just aren’t trying ‘hard enough’!
Symptoms of ADHD are likely to become exacerbated for post menopausal women with ADHD because decreases in oestrogen has been found to increase ADHD impairment.
The bottom line - be kind and don’t judge 🙏
