🌊 CONNECT Program – Beach Day for the Soul ☀️

Our young men recently took part in a wellbeing-focused beach outing as part of the CONNECT Program and what a deadly day it was!

Together we walked the beach, cast a few lines, shared some laughs, and enjoyed a classic feed of fish and chips. 🐟🍟 The atmosphere was chill and full of good energy, with plenty of light-hearted yarns and positive connections.

💬 Informal conversations turned into meaningful moments.
🤝 Trust and friendships were strengthened.
🧠 Mental health and social wellbeing were front and centre.

This outing was about more than just the beach it was about building a sense of belonging, reducing isolation and creating a space where our young men feel seen, heard, and supported.

🌅 Day 3: Culture, Connection & Country
Kunjur First Nations Men’s Collective

The morning kicked off with breakfast and a relaxing creek swim. From there, we set out along the coastline for some spear practice, island yarns, and land-based fishing. It was a strong reminder of the power of connection to Country, to culture and to each other.

📍 We took time to honour the space we were in. We hunted, ate together, and gave back.
💬 The group held one last yarn before packing up, reflecting on how far we’ve come in such a short time.
💪 The strength of our men lies not just in what we carry but in how we carry each other.

This was more than a camp. It was a step forward for fathers, uncles, brothers and sons. We’re walking stronger, together.

Big love to everyone who made it possible. ❤️🌴

Kunjur started with the intention for a mindset shift in our Men to be more excepting and receiving help, being comfortable to express and speak with others and being able to build and support others!

R U OK? Day is the perfect day to follow
Day - it’s a day that reminds us to check in on those around us and start a conversation that could save a life..

🗣️But you can ask, “RU OK?” any day! 🗣️

By stopping to yarn with those around you, you could help your mob open up, feel supported and find ways to better-manage their worries.

If you’re planning on asking “RU OK?” , remember A LE C (the four steps to an RU OK? Conversation):

🟡 A: Ask
🟡 L: Listen with an open mind
🟡 E: Encourage action
🟡 C: Check in

🙏 Always remember that you matter too - before you can help others, you need to look out for yourself. To get ready, head here for some tips: https:// www.ruok.org.au/how-to-ask.

🌅 Connect to Country Camp (Men’s) – Judhil Day 2 🌿
Saturday 17th May 2025

Day 2 was all about action, reflection, and deeper cultural connection.

The men got to work cutting firewood, cleaning up the site, maintaining the space, and preparing a Kup Murri pit to cook together later that evening. These practical tasks were done with heart, humour, and strong teamwork.

We also gathered under the trees for workshops using the Better Man booklets, where the focus shifted to personal growth, values and supporting each other as brothers.

As the sun set, the fire lit up and so did the stories. Kup Murri was cooking and the evening turned into a powerful time of yarning, healing and laughter under the stars.

📸 Highlights:
✅ Morning clean-up & firewood collection
✅ Kup Murri prep & cooking
✅ Workshop time using Better Man booklets
✅ Cultural knowledge-sharing
✅ Campfire reflections & yarning

Day 2 reminded us that caring for Country also means caring for each other — spiritually, physically, and emotionally.

🌊 Connect to Country Camp (Men’s) – Judhil Day 1 🌊

From 16th – 18th May 2025, our brothers gathered on Country for the first day of the Men’s Connect to Country Camp at Judhil.

Day 1 was about coming together, grounding ourselves, and reconnecting to culture, land, and each other. The men shared stories, went fishing, learned about bush plants, and sat by the ocean reflecting on the strength that comes from being on Country.

It was a powerful start filled with laughter, learning, and healing — walking the land, listening to Elders, and supporting one another.

📸 Here are some moments from the day:
✅ Group time by the sea
✅ Fishing by the river
✅ Learning bush knowledge
✅ Collecting and preparing resources
✅ Evening reflections on the beach

This camp is about cultural strength, men’s wellbeing, and carrying forward the teachings of Country.

Cultural Learning Through Miniature Stone Axe Necklaces 🪓✨

Our young men at Gordonvale High School took part in a powerful session creating their very own miniature stone axe necklaces.

🔹 They learnt the stories of the stone axe and its role in hunting, ceremony, and daily life.
🔹 Facilitators explained how materials like stone, resin and wood are traditionally sourced and used.
🔹 The boys were guided step-by-step to safely craft their miniature axes, blending cultural knowledge with hands-on practice.
🔹 Each necklace was then painted and decorated with traditional designs and meanings, making every piece unique and personal.

💡 Through this activity, the young men built:
✅ Cultural Understanding: knowledge of the spiritual and practical role of artefacts like the stone axe.
✅ Skills Development: listening, respect, and traditional craft-making.
✅ Identity and Pride: celebrating cultural identity and strengthening community bonds.

It was inspiring to see culture carried close to the heart, in the form of a necklace that tells a story. 🙌🌏

🧠👣 Empowering Dads – Supporting Our Kids Together 👣🧠

A few of our Kunjur men recently took part in a powerful workshop delivered by Envisage First Peoples, focusing on parents raising children with learning difficulties and/or disabilities.

This session provided a culturally safe space for our men to yarn, learn, and grow in their roles as fathers, uncles and carers equipping them with tools to better support their and navigate the unique challenges that can come with disability and learning support needs.

💬 Real yarns.
🛠 Practical strategies.
💛 Strong cultural connection.

We’re proud of the men who stepped up to be part of this important learning journey showing that strength comes from understanding, compassion, and being present for our families.

🎨 Rise Up Through Culture & Creativity ✨

A few weeks ago, our men came together for a Rise Up training session, where we embraced the power of cultural painting as a tool for healing, expression and connection.

We began by exploring traditional Aboriginal symbols and their meanings from emu tracks to resting places and waterholes. The canvas became a space for each man to share his story, family history and connection to Country.

The room was filled with quiet focus, laughter and powerful yarns as the group expressed identity through colour and design.

This session reminded us of the healing that comes from sharing space, connecting to culture, and telling our stories in our own way. 🙌🏽
