One of the most common things Dr Omer Batin Gozubuyuk hears in clinic is:

“My scan shows damage.”

Often, imaging does show changes — disc bulges, degeneration, arthritis, or what is commonly described as “wear and tear.”

The issue is rarely the image itself.
It is how that image is interpreted.

Many musculoskeletal imaging findings are common in people without pain. In many cases, they reflect age, adaptation, or previous loading — not necessarily the current driver of symptoms.

When imaging becomes the diagnosis rather than one piece of information, a few things can happen:

– Movement becomes feared
– Pain is labelled as structural and irreversible
– Care becomes passive — “something needs fixing”
– Function declines, despite no ongoing tissue injury

In musculoskeletal medicine, pain is rarely explained by a single scan finding.

What matters more is:

– How the pain behaves over time
– What aggravates and eases it
– The sequence and pattern of symptoms
– Clinical examination findings
– Whether imaging correlates with the patient’s presentation

Dr Gozubuyuk sees patients with significant pain and relatively unremarkable imaging.
He also sees patients with notable scan findings who function extremely well.

His approach begins with careful listening and detailed assessment — not labels.

Imaging plays an important role, but only when interpreted in context, not isolation.

Used well, it supports clarity.
Used without context, it can increase unnecessary fear.

Dr Gozubuyuk consults at Cairns Health Collective every four weeks.

Referral required — our GPs are available to assist with this process.

🌿 Anxiety isn’t weakness.

It is often a nervous system that has become sensitised to stress.

When the brain perceives threat — even subtle or ongoing stress — the body can shift into survival mode. This may present as:

• Racing heart
• Tight chest
• Shallow breathing
• Restlessness
• Ongoing worry or overthinking

For some people, these responses become automatic. Even when they are safe, the nervous system continues to react as if they are not.

At Cairns Health Collective, Paola Ferretti of Insightful Hypnotherapy works with individuals seeking support to better understand and gently shift these patterns.

Hypnotherapy focuses on subconscious processes that influence stress responses. By working at this level, it can support nervous system regulation and create space for calmer, more adaptive responses over time.

Anxiety is not “just in your head.”
And you do not have to navigate it alone.

🌿 Weight management is often more complex than it appears.

Hormones, metabolism, sleep, stress and underlying health conditions can all play a role — which is why a structured, medical approach matters. 🩺

At Cairns Health Collective, our Medical Weight Management Programs are doctor-led and begin with a comprehensive assessment. From there, care is tailored to the individual, with ongoing monitoring and evidence-based treatment options considered where appropriate. 📋

The focus is long-term health, safety and sustainable progress — not quick fixes. 🌱

If you would like to explore whether this approach may be suitable for you, we welcome you to book a consultation and have a conversation with:

✨ Why we at Cairns Health Collective are excited for our community today?

March 4th brings to Cairns access to specialist musculoskeletal care — right here at home.

For many people, accessing this level of care has meant travelling outside the region.
Now, that expertise is available locally.

A clear diagnosis matters.
When pain persists, clarity matters even more.
Not every shoulder, knee, hip or nerve problem requires surgery — but it does require the right specialist input.

We are proud to welcome
Dr Omer Batin Gozubuyuk
Specialist Sports and Exercise Medicine Physician (FACSEP).

His approach centres on careful specialist assessment and precision where required.

Dr Gozubuyuk works with people experiencing:

• Shoulder, hip, knee, ankle, elbow or wrist pain
• Tendon injuries such as rotator cuff, Achilles or patella conditions
• Chronic tendon concerns
• Soft tissue injuries
• Nerve-related pain

He also supports patients with:

• Acute and overuse sports injuries
• Load-related pain syndromes
• Return-to-play planning
• Persistent musculoskeletal pain
• Movement concerns related to biomechanics and load

Following detailed specialist assessment, and where clinically appropriate, treatment options may include image-guided procedures such as:

• Cortisone injections
• High-volume injections
• Hydrodilatation
• Prolotherapy
• Diagnostic local anaesthetic injections and nerve blocks
• Platelet-rich plasma (PRP)
• Neural therapy

Dr Gozubuyuk holds a Medical Degree (MD), a Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering, and Fellowship with the Australasian College of Sports and Exercise Physicians (FACSEP), with both international and Australian specialist training.

Referrals are required, and our team is happy to assist with this process.
Appointments are available face-to-face or via telehealth at Cairns Health Collective.
