One of our Townsville clients is cutting her hair off to make wigs and raise money for people who have lost hair from various medical conditions. she'd really appreciate any support you can give her.

I have made the decision to make a difference by cutting and donating my hair to be made into a wig for someone who has lost their hair due to a medical condition. Please help me and raise funds for Variety.

If anyone knows the dangers of sharks, it’s Glenn Dickson. Attacked by a 3-and-half metre bull shark, he was lucky to survive… but the bite to his right leg was so severe, it had to be amputated. In an extended interview with 60 Minutes, Glenn reveals how he learned to kickbox again – and his ...

Not all success stories are running a marathon or climbing a mountain; for Clive his success story involves evening walks around his neighbourhood with wife, pushing a wheel barrow to do the gardening and taking his grand kids swimming in the local creeks. Thanx to the he can do this all day, every day comfortably and confidently.

Tell us about your favourite clinical or professional experience? What have you done recently that you are proud of or that has had impact? ✨✨✨

Currently I’m working on a low-cost expulsion valve for above knee amputees in developing countries. It’s currently being re-worked for injection moulding in order to deliver the volume required at a low cost and reliable quality but it can also be 3D printed and assembled for less than $5 (assuming you have access to a 3D printer). Last Christmas I cycled from Hanoi to Bangkok via Laos and visited a handful of amputee clinics while I was there. I got to see firsthand the difference that a simple device like this could have.

Thanks for sharing Jerry! πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

If you were on Survivor, how long do you think you’d last and why? What would your colleagues say about you? What quirk are you known for?

The game show? I’d be either voted off very first or very last, if it were a genuine plane crash survivor situation, I’d like to think I’d get back home, I spent a lot of my childhood hiking around the bushland of North Queensland. I’m guessing my colleagues would say I’m pretty good at adapting to different work, clients and problem solving. The first thing most people say to identify me is β€œthat guy with the holes in his ears” so I guess that’s a quirk I’m known for?

Tell us about your O&P clinical role? Where do you work, what do you do, what clients do you serve?

My clinical role has been senior prosthetist from my very first day. I met an amputee at the 2015 Adelaide AOPA congress who wanted to establish a prosthetics clinic in Cairns. He had set aside one of his buildings, bought the latest in 3D scanning and carving equipment but needed someone to run the clinic. He gave me the position and I’ve been doing everything from scanning to fitting at Freedom Prosthetics for the last four years. I mostly service lower limb amputees, most of whom lost their limbs as a result of motorcycles.

It's great to meet you Jerry! 😁😁😁
