🌬️ Surprise weather vibes in yoga today! ❄️
What started as a regular morning turned into an unexpected cool change — it felt like a crisp autumn morning in the middle of February! We weren’t dressed for it at all, so we leaned into some fun dynamic stretching and cranked up the Ujjayi breath to build that beautiful internal fire. 🔥
And guess what? It totally worked! We warmed right up from the inside out, stayed focused, and finished feeling energised and toasty. Nature always knows how to keep us on our toes (and mats) 😂
If you’ve never tried Ujjayi breath, it’s a game-changer for generating heat, calming the mind, and syncing breath with movement. Here’s a simple way to practice it:
How to do Ujjayi Breath (step-by-step):
1. Sit comfortably with a tall spine. Close your eyes if it feels good.
2. Start by breathing normally through your nose.
3. Gently constrict the back of your throat — imagine fogging up a mirror with your breath or making a soft “ha” sound (like a quiet Darth Vader or ocean waves). Keep your mouth closed the whole time.
• A good trick to learn it: Inhale through your nose, then exhale through your mouth while making that “ha” sound. Once you feel the throat constriction, close your mouth and keep the same gentle “ha” on both inhale and exhale through the nose.
4. Breathe slowly and deeply — equal length inhales and exhales, smooth and controlled (no forcing!). You’ll hear a soft, whispering or ocean-like sound in your throat.
5. Practice for a few minutes: try 4-8 breaths, or use it throughout your yoga practice.
It builds internal heat, steadies your focus, and feels so soothing once you get the hang of it.
A little breath work can turn a chilly class into a cosy one?
Stay warm, friends 🔥🧘♀️
