Having a great time at The National Play Therapy Conference in Darwin this week. The theme for the conference is:

"Children play it better than they say it"

Its amazing to see the way that Play Therapy is used is so many different ways outside the scope of regular clients.

Can't wait to bring my new knowledge back and apply it to supporting clients at Kate Fisher Play Therapy in Term 3, 2023.

Its no mistake that I've positioned Kate Fisher Play Therapy in the rooms at Blackbird.Co House. I adore inviting the families that I work with into this warm, safe and inclusive space.

In The Playroom, I strive to have a range of play resources for children to engage with where they can see themselves reflected. This supports them to define their sense of identity and the way they fit into the world.

Today I stand as a passionate ally in the LGBTIQ+ community. And I welcome all families and their children to Kate Fisher Play Therapy .

I had a little refresh of the resources in The Playroom this week. I love creating the space for little people to explore their trauma, work on their pro-social skills and strengthen their sense of identity.

What is play therapy?

Play therapy is a powerful means of joining with the innate, creative, non-verbal capacities of children in order to engage and work therapeutically with them. It is a developmentally appropriate, evidence-based method of counselling younger clients. In play therapy, children can play out, literally and/or metaphorically, their inner and real life experiences in a way that builds insight and capacity. Play therapy allows children to express, regulate, communicate, practice and master new skills as well as their emotional responses. (Australian Psychological Society)

Has your child experienced medical trauma?

While I work in with children in many areas of trauma and challenges,I founded Kate Fisher Play Therapy to provide a setting for children experiencing symptoms of PTSD, from medical trauma, to receive Child-Centred, Play Therapy outside a hospital setting.

I am uniquely qualified to offer this service due to my personal and professional experience. All of our children have neurodevelopment and physical disabilities and our daughter (pictured here) has a range of complex medical health conditions which have been life threatening and have required many extended hospital stays.
