YogArt Nidra is YOGA NIDRA Sunshine Coast Australia offering sessions every weekend.
Anna is an Internationally Certified Advanced Yoga Nidra Facilitator (Amrit Yoga Institute ) and qualified Yoga Teacher. She is also a Member of Yoga Australia, a registered Primary school and Early Childhood teacher with QCT and is currently teaching Kindergarten teacher part-time time on the Sunshine Coast. Her background before teaching included working in small business, politics, promotions, the medical arena and media.
Anna leads a guided meditation (Yoga Nidra) as well as YogArt Nidra (yoga nidra + watercolour painting) every Sunday morning at 9am at Currimundi. Anna found a pathway of yoga, mindfulness, meditation and Yoga Nidra to deal with menopausal hot flushes which appeared after a medical procedure in 2012. She has continued on this pathway which has lead her to a healthier, more balanced and almost hot flush free life.
She finds the Science behind the Art of Yoga Nidra both convincing and reassuring and at the same time the 177 medical journal references at the back of the book ‘Yoga Nidra. The Art of Transformational Sleep’ (written by her teacher, Dr Kamini Desai), an excellent source of current research into the benefits of meditation, mindfulness and Yoga Nidra. (The book is available from Sunshine Coast Libraries and/or Amazon Australia).
If you don’t know it already, Yoga Nidra can be as restorative and rejuvenating as three hours’ sleep. It is the most profound rest there is (Kamini Desai). Research shows that the regular practise of relaxation and meditation has beneficial effects on physiological, psychological and emotional health and well being. It can also slow the rate at which you age (Ref. Shealy, C. Norman. “A review of dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA).” Integrative Physiological and Behavioural Science 30.4 (1995):308-313. At the same time ‘Yoga Nidra represents a state in which an indvidual demonstrates all the symptoms of deep non-REM sleep, including Delta brainwaves, while simultaneously remaining full conscious’ (Parker (et al), ‘Yoga-Nidra:Traditional Accounts, Physiological Research, and Future Directions’. International Journal of Yoga Therapy - No. 23 (1), 2013.
Enjoy a Saturday afternoon at Buddina or Sunday morning at Currimundi 45 minute guided meditation based Yoga Nidra session using your breath, body and awareness techniques to help you move into progressive states of relaxation. Resting in stillness, surf the interface between sleeping and waking consciousness. ‘As you continue to practise Yoga Nidra, situations that used to bother you simply don’t irritate you as much. You will find yourself calmer and steadier...’ (Kamini Desai). Watercolour painting and homemade GF morning tea offered after the Currimundi session.
