When we think about preparing for birth, most of the focus goes on baby’s clothes, cot, and tiny socks 🍼👶… but, mama, you need supplies too!

Here are some essentials many mums find helpful in those early weeks:
💗 Maternity pads or adult nappies (yes, they’re lifesavers!)
💗 Peri bottle for gentle cleaning
💗 Nursing bras + breast pads
💗 Healthy snacks and a water bottle nearby (feeding is thirsty work!)
💗 A comfy space to rest and feed
💗 Support system whether it’s your partner, family, or a midwife checking in on you

Every mum’s journey is different, and what feels essential for one may not for another. The key is: prepare your nest so you can focus on healing and bonding. 🌸

✨ Mama, your wellbeing matters just as much as baby’s. If you’d like personalised support on how to prepare for your postpartum recovery, I’d love to help you create a plan that truly fits your needs. 📩 DM me to book a session.

So many mums prepare for birth but forget to prepare for what comes after. That’s where a postpartum care plan makes all the difference.

It’s a gentle roadmap for:
💗 Your physical recovery
💗 Your emotional wellbeing
💗 The kind of support you’ll need from your partner, family, or village

And here’s the truth: it’s never too early to start thinking about it. Even in your second trimester, creating a plan helps you feel more confident and supported once baby arrives.

✨ Mama, you matter too. And the more prepared you feel, the smoother your transition into motherhood can be.

📩 Want help building your own postpartum care plan? As your midwife, I’d love to walk alongside you. Send me a DM to book a session. 💕

In the last trimester, sleeping can feel tricky. The best position is on your left side. It helps blood flow to your baby, supports your kidneys, and reduces swelling.

Your right side is also safe, so it’s fine to switch when you need comfort.

Try to avoid lying flat on your back for long periods, as it can press on major blood vessels and make you dizzy or lower blood flow.

For comfort, use a pillow between your knees, tuck one under your belly, or place a small wedge behind your back.

If sleep feels hard, remember you’re not alone. Reach out to your midwife for support and tips.

Thank you, Dr Michel Odent—your work lives on in every midwife, parent, and birth that attends to the body, mind, and spirit with care and wonder. May you rest peacefully, knowing you changed the way the world welcomes new life.

We are saddened to hear news of the passing of Michel Odent, whose vision and writing reshaped the way we understand human birth.

Michel Odent reminded us that birth is not a medical procedure to be controlled, but a primal rythm to be respected. He advocated for home-like maternity units, warm water births, protecting the birthing woman's privacy and honouring her instincts, undisturbed contact between mother and newborn; he was among the first to discuss the importance of the microbiome, and question many of the practices that had (and have) become normalised in overmedicalised maternity systems globally.

Michel Odent's legacy lives on in every dimmed, quiet birthing room, and in every midwife his words and work inspired to join our profession.

Thank you, Michel, for your passion, vision and committment to women and newborns.

Have you heard about delayed cord clamping? It simply means waiting a little while before clamping and cutting your baby’s umbilical cord usually 1 to 3 minutes (or until it stops pulsing). 🌸

Here’s why it can be so powerful for your baby:
🩸 Boosts iron stores – reducing the risk of anemia in those first months.
💪 Supports circulation – your baby receives extra blood volume, helping their transition outside the womb.
🧠 Nourishes development – the added iron is linked to healthy brain growth.
🌱 It’s gentle – giving your baby time to adjust while still connected to you.

It’s a small moment, but it can have such meaningful benefits for your little one. 💕

Of course, there may be special circumstances where immediate clamping is recommended, but for many births, delayed clamping is safe and encouraged.

✨ If you’re preparing your birth plan, this is such a beautiful option to talk through with your care provider.

If your baby’s due in the ‘ber’ months… let’s get you ready now.

Mama, those last few months of the year can get busy and I want you to feel calm, confident, and prepared for your feeding journey before your little one arrives.

Booking your prenatal IBCLC lactation consult now means:
✨ You’ll understand how breastfeeding works before you’re in the thick of it
✨ You’ll know what’s normal (and what’s not) so you can avoid unnecessary stress
✨ You’ll have me help you create a feeding plan up to 24 weeks
✨ You’ll have me in your corner, ready to guide you from the very start

When we meet, we’ll talk through your questions, create a feeding plan that works for you, and make sure you feel supported every step of the way.

📩 If your due date is between September and December, now’s the perfect time to book your prenatal lactation session with me. Let’s set you and your baby up for the gentlest start possible. 💗
