Friends, particularly those who have known us since childhood, share a unique kind of history and connection with us. But any longterm friendship, even those that started in adulthood, can create a special bond, a sanctuary to go to when life's ups and downs inevitably happen to all of us.
Sadly, our society doesn't always acknowledge the significance of this kind of bereavement. Workplaces often only allow funeral / bereavement leave for family members. I hope one day this will change.
If you need to spend some time processing the loss of a good friend, I invite you to get in contact. We can chat whilst walking around a park, in a cafe or via zoom.

πŸ¦‹ Sometimes the expectations we put on ourselves and others about grieving is completely unrealistic. So, I thought I would share just a few facts...
1️⃣ Grief is exhausting and takes way longer than you might think.
2️⃣ everyone is different and comes with different personalities, temperaments, experiences etc., so it makes sense that everyone will show their grief in different ways.
3️⃣ In the early days, waves of grief come thick and fast, then as time goes on they are less frequent, but they may still come years later when you thought the sky was clear and sunny. You're still normal.
4️⃣ Secondary losses are the things, big and small, that we lose when a loved one passes. It might be a decrease in finances, friendships, changing school, or little, treasured moments like someone to make you a cup of tea or share a joke with. They all matter and need to be acknowledged as part of grieving.

Grief is something we all experience multiple times in our lives, yet the most common question I'm asked are, "Is how I'm feeling normal?" and "Will the pain ever go away?"πŸ¦‹
To help answer these questions, I've compiled this Brief Guide to Grief e-book which you can access for FREE - I don't need your email address or contact details - I just want to help increase our collective understanding of grief. So, if you'd like to check it out, head to the website and scroll down a little to click on the download button which will open a new window with the ebook... πŸ“—

Christmas can be a very emotional and chaotic time. During the Christmas season, I hope you're able to find time to:
πŸŽ„ Care for yourself and your loved ones
πŸŽ„ Re-energise and nurture in nature
πŸŽ„ Intentionally look for beautiful, yet small moments, behaviours, expressions and nature all around you, everyday.

Grief waves can come at any time, sometimes when least expected. But when significant events, including Christmas are approaching, grief waves are very common. 🌊
Some people find it helpful to:
🌊 Talk to family or friends about their feelings and loved one.
🌊 Look back at photos or keepsakes of their loved one.
🌊 Spend some time doing something to honour their loved one.
🌊 Chat with a counsellor.

Grief is messy and we all experience it in many ways. It is normal for children and adults to have some or all of these experiences:
πŸ¦‹ Poor concentration and brain fog due to poor sleep and a brain trying to process what has happened. A child or young person might also now have extra jobs to do around the house.
πŸ¦‹ Upset stomach, headaches, nausea due to the tangled, tumultuous array of emotions, poor sleep and possibly changed food intake.
πŸ¦‹ Lower attendance or late arrivals due to all of the above + if their parent is experiencing these things too, getting out of bed on time, getting organised, driving might be more challenging.
I have 2 ways I can support you:
1️⃣ I can provide individual grief counselling to children and adults.
2️⃣ I can provide training to school staff on Grief Literacy and Grief Supports for School Communities (I'm a former teacher & school counsellor so I get this space)

Gosh I love spring! So much colour, new life emerging, beautiful bird song - especially the magpies which sadly get a bad rap at this time of year. I went on a walk just for me today and as I did I reflected on how incredibly lucky I feel to be able to provide counselling outdoors in such beautiful spaces around and
If you've been considering counselling support, I might be the right person for you if:
🟒 You're seeking support for loss, grief or bereavement for yourself or a child;
🟒 You're a teacher or school staff member who would like feel less stressed and improve your own wellbeing;
🟒 You're a parent who would like to learn strategies to support your young child’s emotional development, confidence and self-esteem (especially if they're heading to 'big school' next year).

In the busyness of life, sometimes we all need a reminder of this. We're human, so we're never going to be present 100% of the time and that's ok. What's more important, is that we understand the importance of being present and try to do it as much as we can. πŸŒ»πŸ¦‹
I provide counselling support to children and adults for all sorts of reasons, but my 'thing' is grief and bereavement counselling.
