Let’s play “Guess the Diagnosis”!

Meet our patient:
🏃‍♀️ 38-year-old female runner
🏅 Pain began while training for a half marathon
😖 She completed the race, but her pain got worse
🦵 Pain is at the front of her knee (anterior) and feels tender to touch
🔄 No pain at rest, but pain appears when running, jumping, squatting, going down stairs, and sometimes when sitting

Any guesses? 🤔

Answer: It’s Patellar Tendinopathy (a.k.a. jumper’s knee)
Common in runners and athletes, key signs include:
➡️ Pain right below the kneecap
➡️ Pain that increases with activities that load the knee like jumping, running, or squats
➡️ Discomfort can sometimes appear with sitting, stairs, or squats

Yesterday, I had the privilege of bringing together a multidisciplinary group of osteopaths, exercise physiologists, podiatrists, and a physiotherapist to hear Dr. Stephan Praet from Ochre Thirroul (sports and exercise physician) present on management options for musculoskeletal pain, including prolotherapy.

As a patient of Dr. Praet myself, I’ve seen firsthand the effectiveness of this non-invasive treatment for injury recovery, and I was excited to share his expertise with my team and other trusted colleagues.

Thank you to Heidi and her team at for hosting us, and to Peter and Weng from for joining (and for your exceptional care in my own rehab before the Camino). I’m also grateful to my osteo colleagues Terry Stewart and Chrissy Weston (Embody Health Co.) for being part of this collaborative learning.

We all left with new insights, fresh treatment options, and strengthened referral pathways for our patients.
