About the Festival

On the Labour Day weekend each year, people from all over Australia make their way to the little-known Camerons Pocket. This chunk of paradise comes alive on this weekend when it hosts the Wintermoon Festival. Set in the foothills of the north-east boundary of the Eungella National Park, this quiet rural setting beside the beautiful St Helens Creek comes alive with hundreds of

festival-goers seeking the wonderful world music and the camaraderie with people who enjoy their escape to tranquility. The fact that it’s family-friendly is a big attraction to those with little ones. Camps rapidly appear on land that was once an orchard and strains of guitars, fiddles, mandolins and flutes can be heard from spontaneous performances around the site. The festival not only boasts some of the best world music performers from Australia but also showcases some of our local talent on three stages strategically placed at various locations within the grounds. If one artist is not to your taste, you can stroll off and check out what's happening on one of the other stages. As well as music, there are market stalls selling mostly hand-made items or offering massage or holistic health services. And you won't go hungry either with a variety of fare from the Hare Krishna vegetarian food to the more familiar burgers and everything in between. Campers are well catered for with facilities such as hot showers and plenty of toilets. The Wintermoon Festival began in 1996 as a tiny local event with locals as entertainers and audience. Word has spread about the beautiful location, and family-friendly atmosphere. Although the festival has grown quite large, it still seems a "small, cosy festival" at heart because it's always surrounded by friendly, helpful people, and families are a big part of our festival, so the kids are always well catered for. To optimize the safety of our guests and to maintain the serenity of your camping surroundings a strict ticketing policy for youth has been implemented.

🌕 May 1 brings the Full Flower Moon

Why “Flower Moon”? The name reflects the explosion of blooms that mark this point in spring, when fields, forests, and gardens across much of North America come alive. A few fun facts: this Full Moon reaches peak illumination at 1:23 PM EDT, it’s the first of two full moons in May 2026, and this one is also considered a micromoon, meaning it may appear a bit smaller than average in the sky.

Other traditional names for May’s full moon include the Milk Moon and Hare Moon, each tied to seasonal rhythms, renewal, and the abundance of late spring.

Look up at moonrise if you can — a full moon near the horizon often appears extra large thanks to the famous “moon illusion.” However you celebrate it, the Flower Moon is a beautiful reminder that spring is hitting its stride. 🌸

After 36 years as Australia’s most awarded festival, we are deeply sorry to share that Bluesfest will not proceed in 2026. This is an incredibly difficult decision, and we are so proud of everything Bluesfest has achieved: the music, the artists, the busking competition, our dedicated staff and volunteers, and the community that has grown around the festival over the past three decades.

Rising production, logistics, insurance and touring costs, combined with a challenging environment for major live events, mean it is no longer possible to deliver the festival to the standard our audiences, artists and partners expect.

A liquidator has been appointed to manage all financial matters. Ticket holders, including parking pass customers and campers, will be contacted directly with information about the claims process and any refund arrangements.

To our fans, artists, partners and the Byron Bay community, thank you for 36 unforgettable years. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has been part of the Bluesfest journey💙
