Need to vent (this may seem unprofessional, however, it’s in regards to my industry)....

Really frustrated with some comments (FB massage groups) I see in regards to other Remedial Massage Therapist (RMT for short).

Other RMTs posting advice about their client(s).
As RMTs, we can not diagnose, so if you think there is more to the issue that you can not help the client- refer!
And I have other RMTs shocked by this advice! Seriously?! “First, do no harm.”

I think it’s ridiculous that some RMTs are so stubborn/too proud to admit that they can’t do more or know more, or think that they are as good/better than a Physiotherapist, or other allied health professionals (that the client may need, instead of a RMT).

I’m a RMT and even with continued to education, we just don’t have the same level of education as someone who had to go through 4-5 years of Uni.
We are not governed by AHPRA.

You may lose a client by referring them to someone else, but if that’s what they truly need, then that’s what should be done. Greed will only lead to distrust.
I also think this one of the major reasons clients are so uneducated when it come to the topic of remedial massage. There’s so many RMTs out there that pass on false information to their clients.
It’s so disappointing 🤦🏻‍♀️
