Strong, deadly and screened!

Tharawal Aboriginal Medical Service on Dharawal Country showed how one community-led cervical screening day can make a lasting impact.

With a welcoming space, trusted faces, and the option for self-collection, 17 women screened on the day, and coverage jumped from 52% to 69%. More than numbers, it was about confidence, choice, and breaking down stigma together.

This is what culturally safe care looks like: women leading the way, supported by community.

Congratulations to our 5 strong women, who on Tuesday graduated as Aboriginal Health Worker Practitioners. We are so proud of you all. It hasn't been easy , but you picked each other up and got through it. It means so much to Tharawal and our community to have an educated and qualified Aboriginal Workforce. The qualification compliments your already lived experiences and paves the way for further education. Thanks to our CEO for his vision and support. Thanks also to the AH&MRC of NSW , NACCHO and the South Western Sydney PHN for their ongoing and continued support.

The Virtual Aftercare Hub offers free after-hours virtual support for people in South Western Sydney who have attempted su***de or are recovering from a suicidal crisis.

The Hub is available through Lifeline Macarthur and Western Sydney and offers compassionate, person-centred care in a safe and confidential setting, when many other services are closed, or for people who prefer phone or online help.

This online service offers outbound support calls and follow-up care from accredited crisis supporters. Support is available on weeknight evenings when other services may be unavailable.

Our Housing Team attended a conference in Perth and had the incredible opportunity to visit Noongar Mia Mia, a WA Aboriginal community housing provider. It was a true privilege to meet people who share the same passion and belief system around service delivery, to witness the meaningful work they do, and to see how they continue to build on it with community at the heart of every decision.

Massive thank you to the Dorchester School boys at Reiby, who just delivered their 2nd major TAFE project for Term 3 to the Tharawal Preschool, MACS Centre.

The seating for 28 kids was constructed at Dorchester for the kids to enjoy their meal breaks outdoors in the shade.

The kids were excited to see them arrive and immediately climbed on to them. The teaching staff were most grateful and within 10 minutes today's lunch was enjoyed outdoors.

Special credit goes to student Matt G for his outstanding application to the job and of course, Richard for his TAFE instruction.
