All I want for Christmas is a pink wheelchair! โจ๐
Two days before Christmas, Brooke received something pretty special. A wheelchair designed exactly as she requested, bold, joyful and very pink.
Our wonderful ATP Sarah Sheldon delivered the chair to Brooke and couldnโt be happier: โI delivered her chair today and I have been so excited to get this one to her because it is so pinked out!! She asked for everything pink and we delivered!โ
It arrived just in time for Christmas celebrations, bringing smiles, independence and the joy of being the pink heart of the festive party!
Merry Christmas Brooke from all of us at ILS ๐๐ฉท

A walking stick is only safe and supportive IF itโs the right height.
Hereโs how to get it right:
โ Wear supportive footwear
โ Stand tall with arms relaxed at your sides
โ Handle height should line up with the wrist crease
โ Elbow should have a 10โ20ยฐ bend when holding the stick
A poorly fitted stick can cause pain, poor posture and even increase falls risk โ so itโs worth getting right.
Explore our walking stick range online or book a trial in-store for a personalised fitting.

Our ATP Hussein Ayache shared something special this week - Piere's journey from his first power chair trial to receiving his Permobil F5 VS.
The journey took patience. First trialling the K300 Ps Jr to introduce powered mobility. Then the M3 to better accommodate for growth. And when they confirmed he could weight-bear, the F5 VS became possible.
That's what our trials process does - it gives time to find the right fit, not just the available one. Piere confidently tested mid-wheel and front-wheel drive options, adapted quickly, and found exactly what worked.
Now he's opening fridges and cabinets independently, standing whenever he chooses and shooting the odd hoop! The pride on his face says it all.
A huge thanks to Hussein Ayache, Melinda Coffey, Ashleigh Hanekom, Mearelle, and Piere's physiotherapist Hussain Abou Hashem for the dedication. And to Piere and his family for trusting the process.

Not every walking aid is designed for everyday balance support. Some are built for more complex needs.
๐น U-Step Parkinsonโs Walker
Designed with a reverse braking system (it only moves when brakes are squeezed), laser and auditory cueing options to assist with freezing, and a highly stable U-shaped base.
๐น Forearm support frames
Allow people with weak grip or painful wrists to bear weight through their forearms instead, supporting an upright posture and safer mobility.
These are just 2 specialised solutions that can make a big difference for people living with neurological conditions or recovering from injury.

Seat walkers arenโt just for moving โ they need to be used safely for sitting and standing too.
A few simple safety steps can make all the difference:
๐น Lock brakes before sitting or standing
๐น Ensure itโs positioned against an immovable object (like a wall, chair or lounge) before sitting to prevent rolling or tipping
๐น Back up until legs touch the seat
๐น โNose over toesโ when rising
๐น Push up from seat or armrests, not the walkerโs brakes
๐น Pause to balance before walking
These techniques reduce falls risk and build confidence in daily transfers.
๐ Ask our team for more safety tips during a trial.

Seat walkers can be a great mobility option for people who need more than a walking stick, but donโt want to lose their independence.
They provide:
โ๏ธ Balance support and stability
โ๏ธ Hand brakes for safer control
โ๏ธ A built-in seat for rest breaks
โ๏ธ Extra help with carrying items like shopping
But they arenโt right for everyone. A seat walker may be unsuitable if:
โ ๏ธ Someone canโt safely use the brakes
โ ๏ธ Balance is very poor or there are frequent falls
โ ๏ธ It might be used mainly as a wheelchair
Choosing the right aid depends on clinical assessment, goals, and environment.
Book a trial with our ATPs to find the right fit.

Itโs a common misconception that any walker will do.
But the wrong choice can increase falls risk, reduce confidence or even stop someone from using the aid at all.
Different walking aids serve very different purposes:
๐นWalking stick โ for mild balance issues or a little extra support
๐นSeat walker โ for balance support + rest breaks
๐นPick-up frame โ for significant frailty or very slow, deliberate mobility
The key is matching the aid to the personโs goals, abilities and environment.
Explore our range of walking aids in-store or online, or book a trial with our team to find the right fit.

Pressure injuries continue to be a significant and costly health concern across all care settings. While most pressure injuries are preventable, prevention relies on vigilance, clinical expertise and the right equipment working together.
Today, we recognise the clinicians who assess risk, educate families, advocate for proper positioning and ensure each individual receives the pressure care support they need. Your attention to detail prevents suffering and supports recovery.
