Congratulations to Rochelle Bonning on being named HESTA Midwife of the Year 👏
For 30 years, Rochelle has provided exceptional care to women and families across Camden and Campbelltown Hospitals, championing continuity of care, equitable birthing options and midwifery mentorship.

As the longest-serving Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) midwife in our District, Rochelle co-founded the Camden and Campbelltown MGP, established an outreach clinic supporting vulnerable families, and in 2025 led the implementation of Campbelltown Hospital’s publicly funded homebirth program.

We’re so proud of you Rochelle - a truly deserving recognition for an incredible midwife, leader and advocate for women and families 💜

Jacqualin Bell, Registered Midwife, says one of the moments that has stayed with her during her career was caring for a woman she had first met three years earlier as a student midwife.

Admitted for a week with a high‑risk pregnancy, it was a time marked by uncertainty and anxiety, but also by connection. Having supported her previously through a Continuity of Midwifery Care experience, Jacqualin was able to provide reassurance and familiarity, helping to ease her concerns.

Over that time, the woman reflected on Jacqualin’s growth from a student finding her feet to a confident Registered Midwife, words that have stayed with her ever since.

After the birth of her son, she returned to introduce Jacqualin to him, alongside the daughter Jacqualin had helped bring into the world three years earlier.
“It reinforced the privilege of continuity in midwifery, being part of a woman’s journey over time,” Jacqualin said.

This International Day of the Midwife, we recognise the powerful connections and continuity of care that midwives bring to every family they support.
