🌻 Sunflowers in Action – Even at Universal Studios Hollywood s! 🌻

While travelling in the US, our founder Kara Thornhill spotted a group proudly wearing Hidden Disabilities Sunflower lanyards at Universal Studios – a global symbol we’re proud to support here at Supports.

She stopped to chat with the group, shared why the sunflower is so important to us, & even swapped details to connect if they ever travel to Australia. One gentleman had even lived in Melbourne – proving just how small (and wonderfully connected) the world can be! 🌏

Moments like this show why initiatives like the sunflower matter – they spark conversations, create inclusion, & remind us that advocacy doesn’t stop at borders.

💛 We’re proud to be a Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Programme partner, training our team & supporting participants to proudly wear theirs if they choose.

💚 Maverick in Vegas! 💚

Our founder, Kara Thornhill, might be on holiday in the US – but she’s still spotting Maverick everywhere she goes!

From a Maverick ambulance support team to a giant Vegas sign, it’s a reminder that while the name is shared, what we’ve built here at Maverick Supports is truly one of a kind.

Even on the other side of the world, we’re proud to carry the Maverick spirit – being bold, standing out, and doing things differently.

Because once you’re a Maverick, you see it everywhere. 😉

🌟 Local Talent Doing Big Things! 🌟

We love celebrating incredible stories like this one – because community support changes lives!

A 15-year-old boy from Wollondilly Shire Council – just the next council area over – is chasing his dreams in a huge way. Starting in go-karts only two years ago, his natural talent has taken him all over Australia racing Legend Cars. Now, he’s been invited to compete at the World Titles in the US this September! 🏁✨

While our founder, Kara Thornhill is in the States with Erin Beth, we couldn’t resist stopping at Maverick Helicopters for a photo in our Askr Sendall Racing T-shirt – cheering him on from afar! His mum, Kristin Sendall, has been an incredible supporter of Maverick Supports over the past year, making this cause even closer to our hearts. 💚

The family needs to raise $50,000 to help get him to the World Titles – an incredible opportunity for such a talented young Aussie. The local newspaper even ran a fantastic article on his journey, and it’s a powerful reminder of why we need to back young people in regional communities chasing big dreams.

If you can help, please donate via the link below and support this amazing journey. Let’s help get him to the world stage! 🙌

A couple of saturday nights ago, our Lead Maverick, , along with Jason, Kareena, & Di, represented Maverick Supports at the 2025 Lifeline Macarthur & Western Sydney Unveil Hope Masquerade Gala.

The evening was filled with great food, wonderful company, & meaningful conversations, all in support of Lifeline’s vital crisis support & su***de prevention services. Events like these remind us how important it is to come together as a community to build resilience & create su***de-safe spaces for everyone.

A special highlight was connecting with leaders like Steve Wisby OAM (IC Care) & Veronica, CEO of Lifeline Macarthur, who continue to do incredible work in mental health and community support.

We’re proud to support initiatives that empower individuals and strengthen our community.

🌿 NAIDOC Week at Maverick Supports 🌿

At , we believe that true support starts with understanding, respect, & a commitment to culturally safe practices.

We’re proud to share that one of our Indigenous team members has been helping us deepen our connection to Country by writing our own Acknowledgement of Country, which she delivers at our monthly team meetings. This (just one) meaningful step has opened important conversations within our team about reconciliation, cultural awareness, & the importance of amplifying First Nations voices in the disability support space and with our clients.
We now include this on our intake form discussion pieces too.

Our commitment to culturally responsive care has also led to Supports being selected to work with Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander children in Out of Home Care under the NDIS. We don’t take this responsibility lightly, & we know that understanding culture is essential to providing effective, respectful, & empowering support.

This NAIDOC Week, we celebrate the resilience, strength, and cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples – & we recommit to walking alongside First Nations communities as allies and advocates.

❤️🖤💛 NAIDOC Week Kicks Off in Campbelltown

Yesterday morning our Managing Director attended the Campbelltown NAIDOC Week 2025 flag raising ceremony, joining community members, leaders, and local representatives in a powerful start to this year’s celebrations.

It featured a warm Welcome to Country by Aunty Glenda Chalker, a Smoking Ceremony by Uncle Raymond Wetherill, & a community march; celebrating 50 years of NAIDOC & recognising that Campbelltown is home to the largest First Nations population in NSW, with over 7,000 Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people.

connected with inspiring community leaders including Shefali (President of Campbelltown Chamber of Commerce), Moana Strickland (Hand on Hearts Macarthur, One Door, NSW Pasifika Committee), Federal Member David Moncrieff, and State Member Nathan Haggerty.

We’re proud to stand alongside our First Nations communities, not just during NAIDOC Week, but every day - committing to cultural understanding, respect, and genuine support.

At Supports, we’re often asked how many clients we currently support. Right now, that number sits between 160–190 active clients. What’s rarely talked about is that at least 20 of these clients receive pro bono support.

Why? Well, sometimes people urgently need help but don’t yet have their NDIS funding in place, or they’re stuck in bureaucratic red tape that delays the essential support they deserve.
We believe that a real NDIS provider, & a good community member, can be defined by the number of pro bono clients they choose to take on.

This is what genuine care can look like. Isn't this what being truly human is all about.

In our view, agencies that don’t support any pro bono clients are often those driven purely by profit, & they’re not in this industry for the right reasons.

Of course, running a successful business matters. But true success also means being excellent at what we do, standing up for our community, and looking out for those who are less fortunate.

As a support provider, we know we’re in a unique position to make a difference, & it isn’t hard to do. If you’re not already offering support to those who need it most, maybe it’s time to rethink your why.

Let’s raise the bar together. 💛

🌿 NAIDOC Week: More Than a Celebration; A Commitment 🌿

This NAIDOC Week, we at Maverick Supports proudly join in honouring the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

For us, it’s about more than just one week a year. Supporting First Nations communities is a commitment we live every day; in our work, in our relationships, & in how we show respect.

We believe true allyship means moving beyond lip service and taking real, ongoing action. At Maverick Supports, we:
✅ Provide ongoing cultural awareness training for our team, so we can deliver culturally safe, respectful, and effective support.
✅ Prioritise partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses and organisations wherever possible.
✅ Embed Acknowledgement of Country into our meetings and events to show respect and recognise traditional custodians.
✅ Advocate for fairer systems and greater opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people within the NDIS and beyond.

NAIDOC Week is a time to celebrate, but it’s also a time to reflect on how we can all do better, every day.

This year’s theme, Keep the Fire Burning! Black, Loud and Proud, reminds us of the strength, resilience, and pride of First Nations communities, & inspires us to keep pushing for meaningful change.

Let’s not just talk about it. Let’s live it.

✨ A Month in the Life at Maverick Supports ✨

Ok, so this is the time when most businesses post long lists of achievements from the past six months – but in true Maverick Supports fashion (because we like to do things differently 😉), I wanted to share just one month’s worth of what we’ve accomplished.
Alongside the everyday work of caring for our clients, managing a fast-growing team of 28+, juggling business, a client list of 160+, motherhood, & life admin – there’s been A LOT happening.

Here’s what June 2025 looked like for Maverick Supports & me:

✅ Held a Strategy Day – and wow, the ideas and plans that came from it were next-level exciting!
✅ Exhibited at our first two business expos – both local, ran out of giveaways at both, & a fantastic chance to connect with our community.
✅ Attended the Lifeline Gala Dinner – supporting a cause close to our hearts.
✅ Joined the Beyond Blue Small Business Owners Program, advocating for other SBOs to do the same.
✅ Became a Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Member to advocate for people with invisible disabilities, inspired by my own experience with MS.
✅ Assisted a PhD student from Wollongong Uni with their research into psychosocial disability services – pushing for better understanding and change.
✅ Donated to Little Nappy Bags of Love, because every child deserves a good start.
✅ Achieved complete registration with NDIS National Disability Insurance Scheme – a massive milestone!
✅ And (drumroll please 🥁) I was accepted into the Campbelltown Chamber of Commerce – ready to advocate for better systems and support in our community.

All this in just one month. It’s been wild, but this is how we’re building a better future – one step, one client, one conversation at a time.

Thanks for following along and supporting us! 💛

Back on the Ground – Where It All Began ❤️

Last Friday was a powerful reminder of why I started Maverick Supports.

We had a long-standing client experiencing a crisis and needing urgent 1:1 support & relocation. With no one else available, I stepped in myself. I was able to be there in person, helping them navigate those crucial first steps, securing both the physical resources and emotional safety they needed to start rebuilding.

It’s heartbreaking at times to be face-to-face with someone in the depths of chaos – but it’s also deeply humbling and empowering to provide real, tangible help when it matters most.

These moments aren’t easy, but they’re the core of what we do. They’re why Maverick Supports exists.

I even took a photo with the client’s dog – a loyal, soft, beautiful soul who’s also a vital support for their owner. These small things count. They create moments of normality and connection amidst the storm, helping our clients put their lives back together, one supported step at a time.

This is the heart of our work.
It’s a privilege to walk alongside people on their journey.
