Welcome Thomas

Thomas will be joining our team as of Monday 20th February.

Thomas is experienced with the neuromusculoskeletal management of acute and chronic conditions. Conditions treated include back pain, neck pain, headaches, shoulder, knee, overuse injuries and posture.
Treatment modalities Thomas utilises include spinal manipulation/adjustments, tractioning, mobilisation, dry needling, cupping, myofascial releasing, trigger points, fascia scraping and rehab.
Thomas adopts a holistic approach from assessment to treatment and aims to not only treat the symptom but more importantly the cause.

ORIGIN
During Thomas' 13 year stint working for the bank, he suffered a chronic low back problem from the long office hours and sought out a Chiropractor. The incredible therapeutic relief he felt immediately after sparked his curiosity into Chiropractics!
Fast forward 3 years later, he completed his Masters of Chiropractic whilst working Banking full time, additionally studied Diploma of Osteopathy, worked as a casual Chiropractor's Assistant under a Chiropractor and Osteopath, mentoring junior students and was the University's Eastwood Clinic Representative.

INTERESTS
Thomas's interest in the body's movement and functioning started early. In primary school he partook in 3 competitive sports - Basketball, Volleyball and Swimming. In high school, it was Volleyball, from university and onwards, it was Soccer. These days he can be found either Bouldering or playing Futsal. With the participation in multiple sports, he has had his fair share of sport injuries so can definitely empathise with those muscle aches and pains!

Best regards.
Thomas

How is the lockdown treating you? 🥺

The lockdown sucks. 😡 We all agree that it does. Unfortunately, the only thing we can do about it is “wait it out” 😓😥

However, it is important to avoid the “burn outs” associated with the situation that we are going through.

We want to avoid things like Distressing claustrophobic irritability 🤓🤓 also known as “Cabin fever”

Today we will be addressing ways to make “working from home” a bit better. 🥰

1- You need to find ways to separate work life from home life. Otherwise, you will feel like you are at work 24/7.

For example: dressing up for work 💂👩🏼‍🏫👨🏽‍💻. When you finish working from home and get changed back into your PJs, you will feel a mental separation from work. 🧚🏻‍♀️

Make sure that you do all your work from a space that you can separate yourself from after your work hours are over. 👩‍💻👨🏽‍💻

Do not respond to work emails after your work hours are over. 🧑🏽‍🦯

2- Exercise regularly! Has there been a post where we didn’t recommend this? 🏃‍♂️🏃🏻

3- Talk to people you love. You can FaceTime friends and family. You can drop us a Facebook message and we will always be up for a chat 🤳🏼

Comment any other suggestions below 👇🫂 stay safe 🥰

How full is your bucket? 🪣

At King Street Natural Health Centre, when we are assessing patients with severe pain, headaches or any other problem we often hear the phrase “Oh! It came out of nowhere. I don’t know what caused it 🥺”.

It sounds strange, doesn’t it? How does a major issue come out of nowhere without a warning? ⚠️

Let’s say that our “problem free” bodies are “buckets”. 🪣

Things like lack of adequate exercise, poor posture, poor nutrition, previous injuries and lack of sleep are cups of water that gradually fill the bucket up. 😭

Eventually if you keep adding cups of water to your bucket, the bucket will overflow, and water will leak everywhere. The leaking water is what eventually brings you to our clinic in a bad way. 🤕

For example:

Someone who comes in with 9/10 lower back pain that he felt after bending forward to pick up a pen. 🖊 ⚡️

The patient’s bucket was already full with lack of exercise, having a previous injury from years ago, not sleeping enough and stress. Picking the pen up was just that extra bit of water that caused the bucket to overflow.

If you empty your bucket before it gets too full you can skip the horrible feeling you get when the bucket overflows!

How do you empty your bucket?
1- Fixing your posture/work ergonomics. 👩‍💻
2- Getting enough exercise 🏋️‍♀️
3- Having a check up with one of the bucket emptiers you can see in the picture 💪

Is stress causing my pain? 😯🤔

We are all going through some stressful times. 😷

Stress can be beneficial short term 🤯 however, many studies have shown that long periods of stress can be harmful to our bodies 🤒🥴. It can lead to poor sleep, pain and tightness in your muscles 😣☹️

When you are stressed, your body goes into “protect” mode and as a result your muscles tense up. 🦾 Again, short term this may be fine but if the muscles stay in this state for long periods you will end up stiff and sore 🤕

Pain and stress do share physiological overlaps that are probably too boring for a fun facebook post 😂.

Aside from that, we always tell our patients “A stressed and/or sleep deprived brain is a brain that is more likely to experience pain” 🧑‍⚕️

So, what can we do about this?

1- Going for a walk
Adding a 30 minute walk to your daily routine can help you with your physical and mental health 🚶🏻‍♂️🏃🏻.

2- Deep breathing 🧘‍♀️ 🧘
Every night before bed allocate 10 minutes to breathe in and out through the belly while getting your head off the stressful things that may have happened throughout the day.

3- Taking a break
Life can get full on. We sometimes get carried away and forget to take breaks 💆‍♂️ 💆‍♀️
