From 25 November to 10 December 2025, we mark the 16 Days of Activism to End Gender-based Violence under the theme “UNiTE to End Digital Violence against All Women and Girls.” 💛

Violence against women and girls affects one in three women and remains a global human rights crisis.

This year, the UNiTE campaign shines a light on one of the fastest-growing forms of abuse: digital violence against women and girls. It is also a reminder that digital safety is key to achieving gender equality.

At the Canberra City and Tuggeranong Medicare Mental Health Centres, we support the mental health and well-being of anyone impacted by violence. You are not alone, and help is available. Our centres provide a safe and supportive space for people in our local community to access care, connect with others, and find the help they need.

Learn more about the campaign and the 16 Days of Activism through the UN Women page.

One in five new mums and one in ten new dads experience perinatal depression or anxiety each year, that’s more than 100,000 Australian parents who may be finding things tough 💛

Perinatal Mental Health Week is about raising awareness, breaking down stigma, and reminding every parent that they’re not alone.

Becoming a parent is a time of huge change. It can be beautiful, but it can also be really hard. This year’s theme, “What you need, when you need it,” is a reminder that the right support at the right time can make all the difference.

You don’t have to face it on your own. Support is here when you need it, whether it’s talking through challenges, learning new strategies, or simply feeling heard.

This International Men’s Day, we’re embracing the theme "Celebrating Men and Boys", recognising the positive impact they have on their families, workplaces and communities 💙

It’s also a time to check in on the wellbeing of the men in our lives. Many men face unique pressures and challenges, and having open, supportive conversations about mental health can make a real difference.

Our Men’s Resilience Group offers a safe, welcoming space for men to connect, share experiences and build strategies that strengthen their mental health and resilience.

Here in Canberra, we’re also proud to recognise the work of Menslink, who support young men through mentoring and counselling, helping them navigate life’s challenges and grow into confident, positive role models.

Let’s celebrate the men and boys who make our community stronger, and keep supporting them to live well, every day.

Today is World Kindness Day 💛

Even a small act of kindness can create a ripple effect. A smile, a compliment, or checking in on a friend might brighten their day and inspire them to spread kindness to someone else. You never know how far a simple act can reach.

A small act can make a big difference. Together, let’s make Canberra a little kinder, not just today, but every day!

This week, we honour the 3 million Australians who provide unpaid care to family members and friends.

Whether it's supporting someone with a disability, mental health condition, chronic illness or frailty due to age, carers play a vital role in our communities.

At Medicare Mental Health Centres, we recognise the dedication and resilience of carers. Carers represent a diverse range of cultures, ages, experiences and responsibilities, but all of them balance caring responsibilities with other responsibilities like work, study and their physical and mental health.

This week is a great opportunity to recognise carers in our community and reach out to show them some support. If you would like to learn more about National Carers Week, visit Carers Australia.

This week is OCD Awareness Week 💛

OCD is often misunderstood. It’s more than habits or routines; it’s a mental health condition that affects over 200 million people worldwide. Misconceptions and stigma can make it harder for people to seek help and get the support they need.

This week is about raising awareness and listening without judgement. This is a time to learn, support and show compassion for those living with OCD, where every conversation counts and can help make a difference.

Today is World Mental Health Day 💚

This day reminds us of the importance of mental health and encourages greater support and understanding for everyone. Today, we celebrate the small and big connections that make a difference. A kind word, a shared moment, or reaching out for support can help us feel seen, supported, and understood.

In Canberra, we are marking the day as part of ACT Mental Health Week (5–11 October) with this year’s theme, The Art of Wellbeing. Wellbeing looks different for everyone. It might mean going for a walk, having a coffee with a friend, taking a quiet moment to breathe, or reaching out for help when you need it.

Small, everyday actions can make a big difference. Connecting with loved ones, spending time in nature, practising gratitude, or simply checking in with yourself are all ways to nurture mental health.

This Mental Health Month, we’re shining a light on the power of movement, connection and community 💚

We know that caring for your physical health can have a big impact on your mental health. That is why we are proud to partner with Running for Resilience (R4R), a local organisation helping Canberrans get active and stay connected.

Whether you prefer walking or running, R4R hosts free weekly sessions designed to get people moving for 20–30 minutes in some of Canberra’s most beautiful spots, including Kingston Foreshore, Denman, The Jetty and the University of Canberra.

But R4R is about more than exercise. Each time their groups gather, they are building resilience, showing that challenges are part of life, and sending a powerful message of support to anyone who may be doing it tough: you are not alone.

You can learn more about each of the locations and times via Running for Resilience

This week, across Australia, we are celebrating BPD Awareness Week 2025.

A time for communities across Australia to challenge stigma, listen to lived experience, and take meaningful steps toward better understanding and support for people living with borderline personality disorder (BPD).

This year’s theme, "1 in 10: Uniting for Change", is a national call to action.

Clinicians, carers, communities, services and policymakers are being urged to come together to challenge stigma, dismantle outdated myths, and ensure that people with borderline personality disorder (BPD) and complex trauma receive the care they deserve.

One way you can get involved in BPD Awareness Week in Canberra is by attending the Family Fun Day taking place on Friday 4 October, hosted by BPD Awareness ACT. This free, family-friendly event is open to people living with BPD, their families, friends and the wider community. Expect fun activities, connection, and an opportunity to celebrate resilience while raising awareness. For more information or to register, contact Natalie on 0415 111 894 or bpdawarenessact@gmail.com

Today marks the International Day of Non-Violence.

Observed on the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, this day serves as a reminder of the power of peace, respect, and dialogue in creating a better world. Non-violence is more than the absence of harm; it’s about actively choosing compassion, empathy and understanding in our communities, workplaces and relationships.

At the Canberra City and Tuggeranong Medicare Mental Health Centres, we see the lasting impact that violence and trauma can have on mental health. We also know that early support, safe spaces and connection can help people heal and thrive.

This day is a chance to reflect on how each of us can contribute to a culture of non-violence, whether that’s listening without judgment, standing up against bullying, or supporting someone through distress.
