We’re excited for construction to start on our new Cancer Research Centre.
Dr Paul Craft said that this a great step forward as cancer treatment is often combined with cancer research.
‘One of the pieces to the puzzle to providing high quality cancer care is to have a vibrant research program integrated within the service. That’s what we aim to do.’
The research centre will expand and improve cancer facilities at the Canberra Region Cancer Centre. Once complete, our cancer centre will be transformed into a world class comprehensive cancer centre providing treatment, research, supportive therapies and emotional support.
‘This is great for our patients and staff, as I think it’ll be a catalyst for increased research activity, certainly clinical trials.’
‘More clinical trials means earlier access to more innovative treatments, and it will also help create a culture between staff of enhanced enquiry, pursuit of excellence and quality of care.’

If you have prostate cancer and have started (or are about to start) hormone therapy treatment you can now register for a research study that will test the effectiveness of a new supportive care program provided by specialist prostate cancer telenurses. 💙
If you enrol to take part, you will be randomly selected to join one of two study groups. 👍
The first group will test the effectiveness of the new program, where you’ll get no-cost individual support sessions delivered by phone, including personalised strategies for dealing with the side-effects of hormone therapy, such as loss of bone and muscle strength, mood changes and fatigue.
The second group will continue with “usual care” provided by your health care team plus a package of education materials.
The research will run over 12-months where you’ll be asked by our researchers about what impact the program has had on your experiences undergoing hormone therapy. ✔️
