PODCAST OF THE MONTH 🎙️ How to lower blood pressure - Dr Tim Spector

Blood pressure is how hard your heart is working to circulate your blood. The systolic (top) number is the pressure when your heart contacts. The diastolic (bottom) number is when your heart relaxes. 🫀

Hypertension (high blood pressure is known as the silent killer as it increases risk of cardiac arrest and stroke. But did you know hypertension also increases risk of dementia, chronic kidney disease and vision loss. 🧠 👀

Whilst medication is indicated for some people, you can also lower your blood pressure by moderating salt and eating foods high in potassium (such as bananas and kiwi fruit). 🥝 🍌

Your gut microbiome may also play a role. High fibre, foods, probiotics, fermented foods and even beetroot juice could help to reduce your blood pressure! 🥤
