Established in March 1970 and named after the late Dr. John James, a highly respected Canberra medical practitioner and surgeon. In 2006 the hospital became part of the Calvary group, founded by the Sisters of Little Company of Mary. Calvary John James Hospital is a Catholic not-for-profit organisation, investing its returns to improve and develop facilities, staff and services for the continuing benefit of the community. Calvary John James Hospital provides surgical and medical services and a special care nursery. We are the only private maternity unit in Canberra and have the only purpose built private rehabilitation unit in the ACT. Founded in 1885 by the Sisters of the Little Company of Mary, Calvary is a charitable, not-for-profit, Catholic health care organisation. Our mission is to provide quality, compassionate health care to the most vulnerable, including those reaching the end of their life. With over 18,000 staff and volunteers, we have a national network of 14 Public and Private Hospitals, 72 Residential Care and Retirement Communities and 19 Community Care service centres.

Celebrating an incredible milestone! 💛

After 46 years of dedicated service, we honour Lee-Anne Prevost on her retirement as a Clinical Nurse. Lee-Anne has made a lasting impact in gynaecology nursing, supporting countless patients with compassion, skill, and unwavering commitment.

Pictured with her fellow theatre crew, and members of our executive team, Rebecca and Amber, this special moment recognises a truly remarkable career. A golden speculum was presented as a meaningful tribute to her years of service in the specialty she has given so much to.

Thank you, Lee-Anne, for your dedication, leadership, and the legacy you leave behind. You will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.

We proudly celebrate the retirement of Ann Stewart, QRSM, marking an incredible 50 years of dedication to nursing.

As Quality, Risk and Safety Manager at Calvary John James Hospital, Ann has been instrumental in strengthening patient safety, driving continuous improvement, and successfully guiding the hospital through accreditation processes. Her expertise, leadership and unwavering commitment have helped shape the high standards of care our patients and community trust.

Ann’s influence reaches far beyond compliance and governance she has mentored teams, championed a culture of safety, and ensured excellence remained at the centre of everything we do. Her legacy will continue to be felt across CJJH for many years to come.

We were also honoured to welcome Sarah, General Manager and Carlene, Acting DCS from Calvary Bruce Private Hospital, who visited to personally celebrate Ann and recognise her remarkable contribution to healthcare.

Seeing everyone gathered together, sharing laughs, enjoying amazing food, and smiling from ear to ear was truly special.

A heartfelt thank you to our incredible hospitality team for the care and effort that went into preparing and serving such delicious food, and to everyone behind the scenes who helped make the day possible. your kindness and hard work created a moment we’ll all remember.

To our wonderful staff and volunteers thank you for being the heart of CJJH. the joy, compassion, and dedication you bring every day is what makes this hospital such a special place. We hope you had a beautiful christmas filled with love, rest, and happiness.
