OUR STORY:
Proactive Performance began as vision from Principle Podiatrist & Founder Patrick Doan with guidance and conceptualisation from experienced podiatrist Kyle Dedini who is Principal Podiatrist & Co-Founder.
When starting as a young professional in Canberra in 2014, Patrick had a passion for sports podiatry and exercise podiatry but found that there was no podiatry clinic that offered a full optimal podiatry and rehabilitation set-up with a performance gymnasium, testing technology or running track to maximise patient outcomes after injury. There were also a limited amount of qualified credentialed podiatrists with special interests and experience that Patrick could undergo further training in sports and exercise podiatry from in Canberra.
So fast tracking 6 years later in 2020 and Patrick had took upon himself to complete a Master of High Performance Sport at ACU, and to be the first podiatrist in Australia to be a registered with Exercise & and Sports Science Australia (ESSA) Exercise Scientist and Level 2 Sports Scientist and the only podiatrist in Australia with Australian Strength & Conditioning Association (ASCA) Professional Coaching Accreditation Scheme (PCAS) Professional and Level 2 strength & conditioning accreditation. To reach the level of PCAS Professional which is the minimum standard to work in professional sport in the roles of rehabilitation and strength & conditioning, Patrick had to be mentored and have exposure in professional sporting structures for over 5 years.
Patrick draws experience with working at Brumbies Rugby at the Academy and Junior Academy in Athletic Rehabilitation; he was the Head of Athletic Rehabilitation for the Canberra Raiders Junior Representative program; also spent 5 years as a strength & conditioning coach at Senior Division 1 AFL and NEAFL at the Belconnen Magpies and 2 years at Wodonga Bulldogs in athlete rehabilitation at the start of his career. He has over 6 years experience as a podiatrist and 9 years experience in sport/rehabilitation.
Patrick has had a professional consulting role with GPSports, engaging with different generations of player tracking GPS units, tri-axial accelerometers and heart rate monitors which have supplied teams in the AFL, ARU, NRL, NFL and English Premier League and he has applied the technology practically for running, rehabilitation and athlete monitoring. In 2017 Patrick engaged in a High Performance Tour of USA NCAA Division 1 college programs. He collaborated with sports medicine staff, orthopaedic surgeons, sports scientists, strength & power coaches at Stanford University, Berkeley University and Oklahoma State University. Through this experience he further developed his skills and applications in athletic rehabilitation, strength & conditioning, sports science, sports nutrition, biomechanics and progressing athletes towards their performance goals.
Now with all the learnings in his career Patrick has teamed up with Kyle who himself has over 8 years experience as a podiatrist to provide Canberra and the wider community for full access to sports and exercise podiatry with a difference. On site gymnasium, running track, objective testing technology, orthotic manufacturing laboratory, architecturally designed clinical spaces and environmentally sustainable practices has turned their vision into a reality.
