Want to experience the magic of Drizzle Boy for FREE? Right4me is giving away 2 tickets to the November 14th performance at 7:30 PM! As a ticket holder, youโ€™re also invited to a special pre-show Q&A with Playwright Ryan Enniss, who will be chatting with local disability inclusion advocate and educator Tess Yvanovich (Right4me). Get a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of this thought-provoking play.

Drizzle Boy was the smash-hit of Queensland Theatreโ€™s 2023 season, winner of the 2022-2023 Queensland Premierโ€™s Drama Award, and is the first time a neurodivergent character has been written by a neurodivergent playwright and portrayed by an actor with lived experience on the Australian main stage.

Did you hear? The 10-year ACT Disability Strategy 2024-2033 and First Action Plan 2024-2026 is here! As a member of the ACT Disability Reference Group (DRG), itโ€™s been exciting to have been involved in advising the government to help make this Strategy the best it could be for disabled Canberrans, and to make the biggest difference to our everyday lives.

And thereโ€™s a lot of us! Did you know 1 in 5 Canberrans live with disability? The ACT Disability Strategy aims to support us to have full and equal participation in all aspects of community life.

Some big wins in the Strategy include:

- Setting an employment target of 9% for people with disability in the ACT Public Service
- Funding two new Disability Liaison Officers in key areas (Housing ACT and Access Canberra)
- Funding a community peer support program for disabled LGBTQIA+ Canberrans
- Employing an Easy English specialist and an Auslan interpreter within the ACTPS to ensure people with disability can access and understand information that affects their lives
- Building multiple new Changing Places, including one portable Changing Place for events
- Supporting Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) to deliver culturally safe disability supports to First Nations peoples

Wishing you and yours a joyful, healthy, and prosperous Year of the Dragon. In Tess' family, with Hong Kong influence, it's tradition to eat (long) noodles for long life (make sure you do this on your birthday, too! ๐Ÿ˜Š). This year I'm in Melbourne and my Singaporean sister-in-law is hosting our lunar new year's celebration, and for her, Lunar New Year means hotpot! So we are doing both today. I also have a new tradition I'm hoping to introduce today, and true to my style I'm taking the cultural influence of our lucky red envelopes - traditionally given by elders to young'uns with money inside - and putting a mindful, gratitude-based twist on it! ๐Ÿงง๐Ÿฎ๐ŸŽŠ

DID YOU KNOW? In general, people with disability report poorer general health and higher levels of psychological distress than people without disability.

People with disability have specific needs, priorities, and perspectives based on their individual identities including their gender, age, s*xuality, race and cultural background, and can face additional barriers and inequities. (This is called intersectionality!)

This month saw the launch of the ACT Government's Disability Health Strategy, a 10-year plan that aims to ensure people with disability have equitable and appropriate access to healthcare in the ACT. And bonus, as well as reading all about it, you'll also find Tess' mug.....er, we mean, Beautiful Visage'...in there! Link in bio, or simply google 'ACT Disability Health Strategy'.
