Congratulations to Jessica Andrew, Director – Locum Programs, who is celebrating 10 years with Aspen Medical this week! 👏

Jessica joined the company as a Travel Coordinator, then moved into our Australian operations team in 2018. Stints as a team leader in Virtual Health during COVID-19 and international operations followed before joining the Rural Locum Assistance Program (Rural LAP) team as National Manager in 2022.

Jessica took up her current role in July 2025, overseeing both Rural LAP and the NT Remote Locum Program.

Jessica said: “Every role, every challenge and every team has shaped who I am today. It has been an honour to grow alongside inspiring colleagues and to contribute to work that truly matters. I’m proud of these 10 years, and excited about the positive impact we will continue to create together at Aspen Medical.”

More than 1,000 hearts healed in Fiji. 🩷

The Aspen Medical-managed Lautoka Hospital has now delivered over 1,000 cardiothoracic and cardiac procedures – a significant milestone for patients, families and the wider Fijian community.

This achievement reflects the strength of our partnership with the Fijian Government and the dedication of our clinical workforce, who provide high-quality, specialist care close to home. Patients who once needed to travel overseas for complex cardiac surgery can now access life-saving treatment at home.

By strengthening local capability and investing in sustainable healthcare delivery, we continue to improve access to critical services across the region.

A couple of weeks ago, our aeromedical hangar in Karratha became a classroom unlike any other. A group of medical students joined Dr Tim Parker, Dr Nantha Ramachandran and Intensive Care Paramedic Scott Webster to learn what retrieval medicine really looks like.

From hands-on simulations to step-by-step breakdowns of in-flight emergencies, the session brought the realities of pre-hospital care to life. The students explored the aircraft, practiced critical procedures and saw how clinical decisions are made under pressure, with limited resources and no room for error.

For many, it was their first exposure to acute care beyond the hospital. The feedback spoke volumes. Several described the experience as a turning point in their career thinking, with a renewed interest in emergency and retrieval medicine.

Thank you to our clinical team for volunteering their time and expertise - experiences like these help shape the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Aspen Medical is delivering essential healthcare support onboard CSIRO research vessel Investigator during its latest research voyage – a 56-day voyage to Antarctica led by the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies - IMAS to study the Cook Ice Shelf marine region, a globally significant but little studied region in East Antarctica.

With paramedic Wayne McKenna and Dr Gary Mitchell onboard, we're ensuring the crew, technical teams and scientists stay healthy and mission-ready in one of the most remote marine environments on Earth.

Remote. Complex. Isolated. It’s what we do.

🎶 "It was 20 years ago today..." 🎶

With an Aspen Medical career spanning 20 years, Advanced Care Paramedic Lindon Shield has been helping us provide world-class healthcare across the Pacific Islands and Australia since 29 January 2006.

Lindon started with us in Solomon Islands before his career adventures took him to Timor-Leste and Kiribati, before working with our clients in the resources sector in remote Queensland.

Commenting on his career milestone, Lindon said: "When I started with Aspen Medical in Solomon Islands two decades ago, we were a small team but punching well above our weight in terms of delivering healthcare.

"Over the years, as my own circumstances changed, the company has been very supportive. It may have grown globally since then but still retains a family feel to it. We still care about each other, still support each other."

Hear, hear!

There must have been something in the water in January 10 years ago as we mark the second of our colleagues marking a decade with Aspen Medical this week! 🚰

Congratulations to Scott Webster, currently working as a Critical Care Paramedic with our aeromedical retrieval team in WA.

Scott said: “The last 10 years with Aspen Medical have been amazing. I’ve been lucky enough to be involved with HEMS in the Solomon Islands, maritime deployments around Australia, as well as the last few years on the retrieval jet and choppers serving customers in the resources sector in WA. There have also been some really enjoyable Defence deployments with Exercise Talisman Sabre. I've been very lucky to work alongside such amazing clinicians over the years."
