Did you know that staying active in midlife and later life could significantly lower your risk of developing dementia?

Research shows that adults who maintain regular physical activity during their 40s, 50s and beyond can reduce their dementia risk by up to ~45%. Whether it’s walking, cycling, strength training or gentle movement, it’s never too late to support your brain health through exercise 🧠πŸ’ͺ🏼.

People who did a lot of physical activity between 45 and 64 had much lower odds of developing dementia – even when they carried a genetic risk factor.

The post below includes a petition to retain partial access to the Theatre Lane Carpark.

We want to retain disability parking in a close proximity to our practice for patient who need it!

πŸ›‘ SAVE THE THEATRE LANE CARPARK

The Theatre Lane carpark is closed not for theatre construction, but to be used as a storage and loading zone.

This carpark is essential for many of our members β€” especially those with disabilities, mobility challenges, or limited walking capacity. Removing it will make access significantly harder and less safe.

This means:

❌ Reduced access for members and visitors
❌ Increased safety issues, particularly in the evenings
❌ More pressure on already struggling parking options

We support the new Lyric Theatre β€” it will be great for our city.
However, we and many local businesses do not believe the carpark should be fully closed simply to act as storage.

We are asking the ACT Government to keep at least 60% of spaces open during construction.

Is "perfect posture" really the key to avoiding pain?
Turns out, it's not about sitting up straight all day, but about moving more often.

Evidence shows that regularly changing posture and taking movement breaks can help prevent or manage low back and neck pain, especially for office workers.

Want to stay pain-free and mobile? Clinical Exercise Classes (Matwork & Reformer Pilates) are designed to help to reduce pain, build strength, core stability, mobility, and body awareness.

Movement variety and regular posture shifts, especially during desk work, are key to preventing pain and staying comfortable throughout the day.

Worried About Falls? You're Not Alone.

Around 30% of Aussies over 65 experience a fall each year, but the good news is, targeted exercise can make a real difference. Our Exercise Physiologist Grace Gee explains how building strength, balance and stability through tailored movement can reduce your falls risk and help you feel more confident on your feet. An Exercise Physiologists can support you with personalised, effective care.

Approximately 30% of individuals over the age of 65 experience a fall each year, and about 10% of these falls lead to a fracture.

🦴 Osteoporosis: The Silent Bone Thief 🦴

Most people don’t realise they have osteoporosis until a sudden fracture changes everything. This article from the Sydney Morning Herald highlights just how quietly this condition can creep up.

At our Practice, we see firsthand how early intervention, targeted exercise, and education can make a real difference. As physios and EPs, we play a key role in helping people build and maintain bone strength, especially after 50.

πŸ’‘ If you're at risk (age, menopause, family history, certain medications), don’t wait for a fracture to take action.
πŸ’ͺ Strength-based movement and balance training can help protect your bones and your independence.

Get started on maintaining your muscle and bone strength. Book a Strong Bones Assessment or Strong Bones Class with our experienced Physios or Exercise Physiologists.

More than 6 million Australians have low bone density. How does bone get lost and remade? And how do you know if it’s osteoporosis?
