Pegasus is an iconic Canberra charity which exists to empower people to develop their abilities. Established in 1973, Pegasus is located at Pegasus Farm on the outskirts of Canberra, the national capital. Around 80 people each week with a disability participate in our horse-facilitated therapy programs. Pegasus would not survive without the support it receives from the community and more than 250

volunteers. Our sessions are offered in an integrated environment with participants placed according to their ability. Apart from being fun, horse riding helps to improve co-ordination, balance, muscle development and fitness. It also boosts confidence, self-esteem, communication skills, leadership and trust.

For over 50 years, Pegasus has been changing lives across Canberra.

For many people living with disability, Pegasus is much more than horse riding.

It is confidence.
It is connection.
It is belonging.

For over five decades, our community has helped make this possible through volunteers, donors and supporters who believed everyone deserves opportunity and inclusion.
Now we need your help again.

As EOFY approaches, your tax-deductible donation can help ensure Pegasus continues delivering these life-changing programs for another 50 years.

Please help ensure no one is left behind.

Weekend horse feeder / horse carer.

Pegasus RDA (Riding for People with Disability) has a 100 acre farm in west Belconnen, with a herd of around 18 horses. Our horses and their well-being are vital to the delivery of safe and developmental programs to our participants who live with disability.
We are looking for someone on a casual employment basis, to permanently fill a two hour feeding shift late Saturday afternoons, plus, effectively be on permanent call to fill any of the other three weekend shifts (Saturday morning, Sunday morning and afternoon) as required when other feeder / carers may be unavailable.

This is not expected to be a frequent occurrence, but the applicant must have the capacity and flexibility to commit to the on-call arrangement, noting that on-call will only be paid if actually called in.

The role involves:

• Moving horses between paddocks and yards
• Feeding individual horses prepared, specific feeds and placing hay out for the herd
• Giving medication – oral, eyes, topical and possibly injectable
• Performing visual checks on all horses for apparent overall wellness
• Performing visual checks on all horses for surface injury
• Rugging and unrugging
• Mixing feeds for the following day
• Mucking out of yards
• Checking all water troughs are working, gates are secure, etc.
• Applying knowledge to determine if the herd manager should be called in, in the event of apparent horse illness
The applicant must possess the following skills:
• Substantial experience in handling horses
• A good understanding of horse behaviour
• A good understanding of herd dynamics
• A good ability to safely manage the logistics of separating horses and planning safe feeding sequences
• Skills in identifying an unwell horse and surface injuries
• Confidence in applying minor first aid to horses

If you are interested in applying for the position, please email a one page expression of interest detailing your abilities and experience relevant to the listed skills, and expressly describe your ability to accommodate the on-call aspect of the role.

Today our Relationship and Events Manager, Jo Kennedy, had the pleasure of meeting, speaking with, and to, the members of CWA Belconnen.

Both organisations share a common purpose in delivering much needed and volunteer based services whether through pony or people power.

It’s always a pleasure to share what we do at Pegasus and also hear about other good works in our community, here and in the Canberra surrounds.

Thank you ladies.

Thank you so much to the Belconnen Bowling Club for hosting the fabulous 2026 Pegasus and BBC Bowls and Prawn Charity Day!

This community fundraiser is a long standing annual event held by the club to financially support participants and their families taking part in our Scholarship program.

Originally coordinated by Ray Marsden, the baton has been passed to David Masciulli this year. With Cassandra calling the raffle, Cass assisting with logistics and Jazzie Art (Jasmine) supporting it was a fantastic afternoon out and we so appreciate your efforts.

Great to see one of our participants attending, helping out with raffle duties.

Thanks to Matt Sebbens from Blackshaw Peter for auctioneering, Jamison Travel Macquarie (Michelle Everson) PFD Food Services (Keanan Gordon) for your donations, The Car Doctor Belconnen (Greg Murrey) and Geoff Duddy for the carrots and donations and the BBC community for your support.

At Pegasus, the "magic" is real: small moments of confidence, communication, balance and joy become life changing milestones. Every dollar raised stays local, directly supporting participants, facilities, the volunteer network and of course our amazing Pegasus ponies that make it all possible.

Thank you for your support www.pegasusact.org.au
