Pegasus Riding for the Disabled of the ACT

Pegasus Riding for the Disabled of the ACT Pegasus Riding for the Disabled of the ACT is a not-for-profit community organisation that provides Why horseriding?
(1)

Pegasus is an iconic Canberra charity which exists to empower people to develop their abilities. Established in 1973, Pegasus is located at Pegasus Farm on the outskirts of Canberra, the national capital. Around 80 people each week with a disability participate in our horse-facilitated therapy programs. Pegasus would not survive without the support it receives from the community and more than 250 volunteers. Our sessions are offered in an integrated environment with participants placed according to their ability. Apart from being fun, horse riding helps to improve co-ordination, balance, muscle development and fitness. It also boosts confidence, self-esteem, communication skills, leadership and trust.

On Wednesday 10 December it was a pleasure for Pegasus to attend the 2025 ACT Chief Ministers Inclusion Awards and witness those in the community making huge and positive impacts, shaping conversations and future directions. As a provider of services to those with disability in Canberra and surrounds it's wonderful to celebrate achievements in this sector with our peers.

Congratulations to one of our newest Pegasus board members Raffy Sgori who won in the category of Excellence in Inclusive and Innovative Employment Practices - Founder of SageAdvice .

Congratulations to nominees and friends of Pegasus;

Carol Jennings (founder of WaterWombats ) in the Leader in Inclusion category;
AbilitySeer nominees for Excellence in Collaborating with People with a Disability

Also, a shout out to Shift & Co. . who were highly commended for Excellence in Collaborating with People with a Disability . They are a social enterprise offering a range of inclusive programs which empower neurodivergent youth and adults to build skills, express creativity, and access community, cultural, and social life – without barriers. Lovely people to share a table with and a common purpose.

At Pegasus we appreciate every gift from the community and on Tuesday we were very grateful to receive a visit and a generous cheque on behalf of the Red Knights International Motorcycle Club.

Bill was happy to meet and greet our visitors and wasn't phased by the other type of horsepower!

Than you to President Mick, Boots, Offspring and Alex for making the trip out to our beautiful farm and giving so generously.

On Thursday evening, CEO Pegasus, Matt Watson, drew the last envelope in the 2025 Partner draw for the Canberra Community Chest at Thoroughbred Park and Pegasus was teamed up with #1 Victoria Road (Trainer -Ciaron Maher, Jockey -Jean Van Overmeire). In our third year participating in Community Chest, could this be a third time lucky sign for Pegasus?

Pegasus is very appreciative to be in the running for the $25,000 first prize on Sunday but know that our peer charities are also just as deserving and all will be so grateful to take a share in the $50,000.00 prize pool.

Loved catching up with our Pegasus friends and supporters at this fabulous black- tie event, for fabulous local community causes.
