Our Walk-in Centres now treat children aged 12 months and older 🎉. Previously, the lower age limit was two years of age.

Jon is an Advance Practice Nurse working at our Tuggeranong Walk-in Centre. He has been a nurse for 19 years and has a paediatric background.

‘We’re always trying to improve our service and work out how to make things better for our community and something that has been on my mind is why don’t we treat one-year old’s? What is the rationale for that?’

Jon embarked on 18 months of research and consultation which found the change to treat children from one year of age was backed by consumers, staff, and emergency department data.

‘There was very little difference between the common conditions the Walk-in Centres treated 2-year-olds for, and the type of conditions 1-year-olds were treated for at the emergency department.

‘That helped to form the change – we can offer parents of 1-year-olds another option for non-life- threatening injuries and illnesses.
‘We have a wealth of paediatric knowledge in our Walk-in Centres already. Every Walk-in Centre has nurses who are very experienced in paediatrics.

‘My message to parents is that we’re here to support you and we’re here to offer another health care service option. Sometimes it can be difficult; parents may not be sure whether to go to emergency or not. We’re here to give you care, advice and reassurance.’

COVID-19 isolation rules have changed.

If you have COVID-19, you must isolate for 5 days from the day of your positive test (the day of the COVID-19 test is day 0).

If you continue to feel unwell after 5 days of isolation, you should stay home and avoid contact with others until your symptoms have gone or you’re feeling much better.

If you are well enough to leave home, for another 2 days after your clearance from isolation period, you must:
• wear a mask when in public indoor spaces
• not enter a high risk setting or work in a care facility.

Hey Canberra, we know many of us are finding that this year hasn’t started well.

Feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or uncertain are completely normal reactions to ongoing uncertainty.

If you or someone you know if having a hard time right now because of COVID or for any reason, it might be time to consider some of the ways we can address these feelings:
- Recognise triggers for stress and anxiety.
- Focus on things we can control and look for methods of letting go of things we can’t.
- Reach out to trusted colleagues, friends and family members to get help when needed.
- Find opportunities to share positive stories
- Take a break from information that is sensationalised and only receive updates from official sources.

The ACT Government is changing Check In CBR requirements to better reflect the Territory’s current public health situation and response.

From 11.59pm on Friday 11 February 2022, checking in will only be required at:

• Licensed bars and pubs
• Registered clubs
• Nightclubs
• Strip clubs and brothels
• Organised events that are not ticketed or pre-registered, including conferences, markets, music and cultural events
• Schools and early childhood education and care.

Other businesses and settings will no longer be required to display their QR codes or ask visitors and customers to check in. However, they are encouraged to continue to display QR codes for voluntary use by customers who want to keep a record of where they have been.

These changes mean ACT Heath can still monitor places where our public health team considers there is a higher risk of COVID-19 transmission.

The app is also being updated to enable automatically notify users if they have been at a higher risk setting during a COVID-19 exposure. While this technical work is still underway, this feature is expected to be ready in the next couple of weeks.

Check In CBR has provided a vital service throughout this pandemic and has been embraced by Canberrans. Since its release in September 2020, the app has been downloaded more than 1.3 million times and used for 111 million check-ins. It continues to be a critical tool in our efforts to slow the spread of COVID-19. ACT Health continues to work on improvements to the app in response to community feedback and to prepare for potential future contact tracing needs.

Canberrans are reminded to continue to practise COVID safe behaviours. These include staying home if unwell and getting tested if they have symptoms or are a high or moderate exposure risk.
