Calvary Bruce Private Hospital is co-located within Calvary Public Hospital Bruce campus in Canberra, ACT, serving the communities of Canberra, Belconnen and the Gungahlin precinct. Calvary Bruce Private Hospital is a teaching facility affiliated with the Australian Catholic University, the Australian National University and the University of Canberra. Founded in 1885 by the Sisters of the Little Company of Mary, Calvary is a charitable, not-for-profit, Catholic health care organisation. Our mission is to provide quality, compassionate health care to the most vulnerable, including those reaching the end of their life. With over 18,000 staff and volunteers, we have a national network of 14 Public and Private Hospitals, 72 Residential Care and Retirement Communities and 19 Community Care service centres. On the morning of Tuesday 9th December, we were delighted to welcome the Haydon Aged Care Choir to Calvary Bruce Private Hospital. The choir filled our foyer with joy as they sang beautiful Christmas carols and other much-loved songs, creating a truly festive atmosphere.

It was wonderful to see patients, visitors and staff stopping in the foyer to watch, sing and clap along to the amazing performance. Moments like these remind us of the power of music to lift spirits and bring people together.

A big thank you to Haydon Aged Care for this lovely collaboration, and heartfelt thanks to all the staff, volunteers, and residents whose efforts made this special performance possible. We are so grateful for the joy you shared with our hospital community. 🎄⭐🎅

On Monday we came together for a truly wonderful celebration of the Mary Potter Awards! 🌟
Our regional mission and pastoral care team joined many of our amazing staff to honour the incredible people who make our community what it is.

We were blown away by the number of nominations this year, one of the highest in our region, a testament to the dedication of our staff, volunteers, partners and VMOs. 💙

A huge shout-out to our catering team for the beautiful cake and delicious lunch. Your care in the amazing food you make made the day feel extra special. 🙌🎂

On Wednesday, we were delighted to welcome Hephner the alpaca back to our hospital! 🦙💙 Hephner has been spreading joy to patients, visitors, and staff throughout the year with his gentle presence and calm demeanor. While it’s not every day you see an alpaca as a service animal, Hephner is incredibly well-behaved and always makes our day bright.

Fun fact: This is the same alpaca who met The King during his 2024 visit to Canberra! 👑✨

We always look forward to Hephner’s visits, they bring smiles, comfort, and a bit of the unexpected to our hospital community. Thanks for stopping by again, Hephner! 🥰

Dema and our incredible kitchen team do an outstanding job planning and preparing fresh, nutritious meals for our patients every day – no easy feat! They also go the extra mile for staff and visitors, whipping up special occasion meals throughout the year, including a festive Christmas lunch.

Dema is especially famous for her signature scone recipe, which has become a must-have at all our catered morning tea events. 🧁☕

Our Neurosurgical Information Night at Calvary Bruce Private Hospital was a fantastic evening for staff eager to learn more about the exciting next steps in cranial surgery at our facility. 🧠✨

The night included an in-depth info session led by some of our amazing neurosurgeons covering the scope of cranial procedures to be performed, post-operative care (including ICP monitoring & EVDs), and emergency management with a focus on early recognition and intervention.

Staff also got hands-on with a workshop exploring ICP monitoring, EVD management, and spinal precautions. A big thanks to Life Healthcare for joining us to discuss essential equipment and tools!
