Check out Watson day this Sunday at the shops.

One of our activities for Watson Day on Sunday is making a large board with our WCA logo and "We Are Watson" lettering across the top. We're planning to get kids (and adults!) to help us finish it by colouring in the letters, and tracing their hands to make leaves for the trees. Here's the board ready to go: we'd love to see lots of leaves added!

Wild mushrooms can appear anywhere, even in areas where signs aren’t present. 🍄⚠️

One of the most dangerous, death cap mushrooms, grow in the ACT. They are a deadly poisonous fungus and cause serious poisoning and death.

It can be hard to tell the difference between a death cap and an edible mushroom, even for experienced foragers. So don’t risk it.

❌ Do not touch, pick or eat wild mushrooms
❌ Do not cook, soak, freeze, peel or dry them – all parts are poisonous and eating even a small amount of a death cap mushroom can kill you
❌ Keep children and pets away from wild mushrooms
🗣️ Talk to family, friends and visitors about staying away from wild mushrooms in the ACT

If you think you may have eaten a death cap mushroom, seek urgent medical attention at a hospital emergency department. Do not wait for symptoms to occur. The chances of survival increase when treatment is started as soon as possible.

You can report death cap mushrooms growing in a public area by:

Today is International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. It commemorates the victims of the Sharpeville massacre in 1969 in South Africa. This year is a year of reflection - of where we’ve come and where we have to go.

In healthcare there continue to be significant differences in the outcomes between white people and people of colour, culturally and linguistically diverse communities and Indigenous communities. Studies show repeatedly that some of this comes down to institutional bias - ie us as providers fail to understand we unconsciously treat patients differently.

I’m committed to learning every day, knowing I have these biases, how to be aware of them and overcome them. It’s not enough (not sure it ever will be) but it’s one of the few tools I have (alongside lobbying politicians).

I hope today is a day of reflection for you as well x (sorry to be a downer but this is important 😘)

Racial and ethnic discrimination occur on a daily basis, hindering progress for millions of people around the world. Racism and intolerance can take various forms — from denying individuals the basic principles of equality to fuelling ethnic hatred that may lead to genocide — all of which can de...
