NAIDOC Week: Celebrating First Nations History, Culture & Achievements

NAIDOC Week is a significant time to honour the history, rich culture, and remarkable achievements of First Nations peoples - the oldest continuing cultures on Earth.

At Nexus Hospitals, we are proud to share the inspiring artwork Mawang (meaning ‘together’), created by Bundjalung artist Chloe Saddler, which is proudly displayed at our Pacific Private Hospital on the Gold Coast.

Chloe describes Mawang as a symbol of community and collaboration:

“The big circle in the middle represents the hospital community. The smaller circles represent the health professionals working in collaboration to help patients reach their optimal health. All the small dots represent the diverse range of people using Pacific Private as a healing space."

We sincerely thank Chloe for sharing her story and this meaningful artwork with Nexus, helping us to celebrate connection and healing.

Creating culturally safe and welcoming spaces across all our hospitals is central to our commitment to providing respectful, inclusive care. In the spirit of reconciliation, Nexus Hospitals honours and respects the First Nations peoples and their enduring connection to Country, community, and culture.

It’s Men's Health Week — a timely reminder that looking after your health is worth every effort.

This year’s theme, “Healthy Habits, Healthy Lives,” encourages all men to take small, proactive steps that can make a big difference — whether it’s booking a regular health check, talking to a mate, or reaching out for support.

Men’s Health Week is a time to reflect, raise awareness, and most importantly, act. This year’s theme, "Healthy Habits, Healthy Lives," is a timely reminder that small, proactive steps can make a big difference in long-term physical and mental health.

At Nexus Hospitals, we care deeply about the wellbeing of every individual patient, employee, and families alike. Men’s health matters. Too often, men delay seeking help or feel uncomfortable talking about their mental and physical health. It's time we change that together.

💙 Our Commitment at Nexus

•Providing access to confidential support through our EAP provider, TELUS Health.
• Encouraging regular health checks, preventive screenings, and open conversations around mental health.
• Supporting health-focused initiatives, such as Movember and wellness challenges
• Creating safe spaces where men can speak up, seek support, and know they’re not alone.

As healthcare professionals, we have the privilege and the responsibility to lead by example. Whether it’s taking time for your own health check, checking in on a colleague, or simply starting a conversation, these actions can create real impact.

To all the men in our Nexus community: your health matters. We see you; we support you, and we’re here for you.

Let’s continue to support one another not just this week, but every week.

Take care of yourself and each other.

Sustainability in Action at Nexus Hospitals 🌱

We’re proud to share that Corymbia Day Hospital has recently installed solar panels, joining a growing number of Nexus facilities embracing renewable energy. This marks a significant milestone in our commitment to more sustainable healthcare. This initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to sustainability and reducing our environmental impact. A special thank you to landlord Mark Veselik for his generous support in helping us achieve this milestone for Corymbia Day Hospital.

Following our shift to fully renewable energy across many of our hospitals from January 2025, we are now taking the next step: reducing our demand on the electricity grid by generating clean energy on-site.

By installing solar systems at a site level, we’re:
🔋 Lowering energy costs
🏥 Improving each facility’s NABERS rating
🌞 Reducing reliance on traditional energy sources

We’re making the most of our existing roof space to produce reliable, clean power and we’re just getting started!

To deliver this initiative we have partnered with Agile Energy who will install, manage, and maintain solar systems across our sites.

This rollout at Corymbia Day Hospital is just the beginning. As we continue to invest in sustainable solutions, we remain focused on actions that support the long-term wellbeing of our people, patients, and the communities we serve.

🔒 World Day for Safety and Health at Work – 28 April 🌿

Today, we proudly stand with the global community in recognising the importance of safe, healthy, and respectful workplaces.

First acknowledged by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) in 2003, this day reminds us that cultivating a strong safety culture is not just a responsibility — it’s a commitment we uphold every day for our patients, our staff, and our communities.

Across our clinical teams and support services, we maintain a sharp focus on continuous improvement, clearly defined responsibilities, and a shared commitment to safeguarding the wellbeing of everyone in our care and within our teams.

Because safe and healthy work environments aren't optional — they’re essential.

🌍 World Health Day 2025. Healthy beginnings, hopeful futures 💙

Our hospital is a big believer that every healthy beginning lays the foundation for a hopeful future. While our expertise lies in surgical procedures, we know that long-term well-being starts with access to safe, high-quality care from the very beginning.
This World Health Day, we stand with our local community and the global health movement in recognising that health is more than just treatment—it’s about dignity, equity, and the opportunity for everyone to live well.

From same-day surgeries to patient-first care, we’re proud to help patients return home to their lives and loved ones sooner—because building a healthier future begins right here, in our own community.

👨‍⚕️👩‍⚕️ Today is National Doctors Day 🩺❤️

Observed every year on March 30, this day is a powerful reminder of the remarkable contributions doctors make—not only in treating illness, but in building trust, guiding care, and strengthening the bonds between healthcare providers and patients.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the incredible doctors who dedicate their lives to caring for others—not just within our hospital, but across our entire national provider network.

Our hospital group was founded with one goal in mind: to provide an excellent surgical environment in partnership with doctors.

Healthcare doesn’t happen in isolation. It takes a community of like-minded, compassionate professionals working together to keep our communities healthy, supported, and thriving.

Today, we celebrate not just doctors, but the spirit of selfless service, compassion, and resilience that defines our healthcare community.
