With diverse backgrounds, age and experiences, our skilled and compassionate volunteers reflect the vibrancy of our local community. Every year, our volunteers give thousands of hours of service. As a registered charity, we rely on our commercial ventures to fund our humanitarian services. Revenue generated from training and product sales enables us to deliver a suite of community education programs.

During the school holidays, our team gave an amazing 470 hours of their time to support the Kanga Cup. They braved the winter weather to help keep the participants safe, smiling and scoring goals.

Across the week, our teams responded to 55 clinical presentations and assisted a further 255 people with access to things like ice packs, band-aids and water.

Our volunteers made a real difference, and we’re so grateful for the care, energy, and heart they brought throughout the week. Thank you for helping create a safe and fun experience for everyone involved.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, the public access AED in Dickson has been replaced after being stolen and vandalised a few weeks ago.

We’re deeply grateful to everyone who donated, including the wonderful team at The Tradies. Your support has ensured that this important, life-saving device is once again available should it ever be needed.

This is a powerful reminder of what we can achieve together - a safer, more supported community in Canberra.

In June, our amazing St John ACT volunteers were out in full force, dedicating over 1,060 hours to keeping our community safe and supported. From Reconciliation Day at Stage 88, to the Matildas vs Argentina match, the Lifeline Book Fair, and our First Aid in Schools programs, their presence made a real difference.

Over the past six months, our volunteers have collectively contributed more than 8,550 hours of service. We are incredibly grateful for their dedication, kindness, and support. Whether it's providing first aid at major events or teaching lifesaving skills to the next generation, our volunteers are there support the Canberra Community. 🙌

Serving with St John 💚

AnnMarie (right) has been a St John ACT volunteer for 2 years and has contributed over 300 hours to the community in that time. AnnMarie shared with us a little bit about her experience as a volunteer:

"I started volunteering with St John Ambulance in 2023 and absolutely love it! It’s such a great feeling to give back to my community and be there for people when they need support. Whether it’s helping out at big events or mentoring new volunteers, every shift is different and rewarding. I’ve met some amazing people along the way and really enjoy being part of such a caring and dedicated team."

St John Ambulance ACT honours the brave men and women who have served and sacrificed for our country. Their courage and dedication inspire us in our mission to save lives and to care for those in need.

As we remember their sacrifices, let us commit to serving our community with the same spirit of compassion and selflessness.

Lest we forget.

Serving with St John 💚

Meet Kim (left) one of our amazing volunteers who received a bronze commendation medal last year for her efforts with St John ACT. Kim tells us a little about what St John means to her below:

"I joined St John in 2019 to be part of a community dedicated to serving others, to make new friends, and to honour my late grandfather, who served with St John NSW for many years.

Since then, I’ve had the privilege of supporting people in vulnerable moments, providing care at a wide range of community events and activities—Matchbox Twenty with the Goo Goo Dolls was definitely a highlight—and more recently, assisting our Volunteer Training Group in helping others build their skills.

I'm incredibly proud of our teams and the role we play in keeping communities safe, easing the burden on professional services, and building resilience during challenging times like the 2019–2020 bush fires and the pandemic.

But at the end of the day, it’s the people you work with who make the experience what it is—the mix of backgrounds, the shared sense of purpose, and their willingness to roll with whatever crazy idea I come up with (sorry, not sorry, team). And while some days you leave a duty physically exhausted, your cup is usually full."

Serving with St John 💚

Chris (far left) is one of our dedicated volunteers who has been involved with St John Ambulance for over two decades. Chris shares a little about his time with the organisation below:

"After 25 years, my journey with St John Ambulance has come full circle.

I joined in 1999 as a Junior member and over the years took on a variety of roles, including State Communications Officer. The experience not only shaped who I am today but also sparked my passion for emergency management—something that has now become my career.

Through the Cadet program, I’ve made lifelong friends who I still stay in touch with more than two decades later. I’ve had the privilege to serve at significant events across the ACT, NSW, and VIC—most memorably, the Sydney 2000 Olympics and World Youth Day in Sydney, where countless hours of volunteering provided valuable clinical experience and unforgettable memories.

Even today, I continue to stay involved where I can. Giving back to the organisation that gave me so much is important to me, and I enjoy supporting and mentoring the next generation of members as they find their own path in the world of community service and event healthcare.

I am very grateful for everything St John has given me—skills, friendships, and a sense of purpose whilst helping the community."
