They’re calm in a crisis.
They’re there in the moments that matter.
They are the courageous and caring.

This National Volunteer Week, we’re recognising the incredible St John volunteers who support communities across the ACT - at events, during emergencies, and in everyday moments in between.

They’re the reassuring presence behind the scenes, helping communities stay safe so they can enjoy every moment that matters.

So this week, we say it loud: Thank you to all our incredible volunteers, you are the heart of St John. 💚

The unofficial sponsor of the courageous and caring.

As we recognise National Road Safety Week, it’s a timely reminder that every driver plays a role in keeping our roads safe - especially our learner drivers who are at the very beginning of their journey.

Road safety starts, not just with safe driving skills, but also with the skills to respond if something does go wrong and an accident occurs.

That’s where the St John Learner Driver First Aid Course makes a real difference. It gives Learner drivers the skills to respond in an emergency and it is completely free!

✅ Builds confidence behind the wheel
✅ Prepares young drivers for real-world situations
✅ Supports faster, life-saving responses after accidents

Learner drivers in the ACT also receive 5 hours towards their required driving hours after completing this course. It is a simple but powerful step toward safer roads for everyone in the ACT.

This National Volunteer Week, we’re celebrating the ones who give a damn. 💚

Every day, St John volunteers show up all around Australia for their communities. From local events and sporting matches to national emergencies and everything in between. They work behind the scenes so Australians can feel safe, supported, and free to do their thing - asking for little recognition in return.

Across Australia, almost 12,000 volunteers have given nearly half a million hours this past year to help keep communities safe and sound. They show up so everyone else can get on with doing their thing!

To every St John volunteer: thank you for your compassion, your courage, and for always stepping forward.

The unofficial sponsor of the ones who give a damn.

We are so excited to share that the StreetBeat initiative is officially going Canberra wide!

Thanks to more than $500,000 in private donations there will be an Automated External Defibrillator installed in every residential suburb across the Capital by the end of 2026.

This significant achievement has been made possible thanks to philanthropists Frederik Paulsen OBE and Mat Franklin, a local Canberran. Their combined contribution of over $350,000 will fund 77 additional AED installations and support free community education around CPR & AED's over the next two years.

This milestone represents a powerful step forward in ensuring help is never far away when it’s needed most.

We would like to thank our partners on this initiative, including GoodLoop Mutual , Capital Chemist Group , and Community Bank Canberra and Regions for helping bring this vision to life and making Canberra a safer place for everyone.

❤️ It’s Heart Week! ❤️

Every minute counts when someone’s heart stops beating. This Heart Week, we’re encouraging our community to take a moment to learn how incredibly important CPR and early defibrillation are in the vent of a cardiac arrest.

At St John ACT, we have seen first hand how confidence and quick action can save a life and how powerful it is when everyday people know what to do in an emergency.

If you’d like to build those lifesaving skills in your community group, school or workplace, we’d love to help. Get in touch with us to find out about our CPR & AED awareness sessions or accredited CPR training 💚

Mega March doesn’t even begin to cover it! 💪

Our St John ACT staff and volunteers dug deep this month, putting in the hard yards across Canberra and delivering an incredible level of support to the community.

🎓 Our trainers took 1,075 participants through accredited first aid courses
📍 We provided first aid coverage at 52 events across Canberra
⏱ A massive 1,884 hours were generously provided by our amazing cohort of volunteers
🎉 We were involved in several major and multi‑day events including Skyfire, Kulture Break’s 24‑Hour Movement Challenge and Relay for Life
🚑 We launched our MERT Team (Medical Emergency Response Team), providing additional clinical support at events
💝 Had our first AED & CPR Awareness session at South.Point in Tuggeranong, teaching the public about the importance of early access to CPR and Defibrillation in the event of a cardiac arrest.

From packed crowds to long days and late nights, our teams showed up with professionalism, resilience and kindness.

A huge thank you to everyone who put on their greens in March, your commitment makes a real difference in our community 💚

A big thank you to the ACT Government for your ongoing support for this vital service (now in its ninth year of service to the community). And of course a big thank you to our staff and volunteers who make this happen every single weekend of every single year

🎉 St John’s CBR Nightcrew contract has been extended! 🚑🌙

This extension reflects our continued investment in services that strengthen safety and wellbeing across our community.

Our Nightcrew provide vital first aid, hydration, safe spaces, and patrols across Civic and Braddon, offering reassurance to our community as they enjoy Canberra’s nightlife—knowing help is on hand if needed.

Nightcrew play a crucial role not only in keeping our nightlife safe, but also in supporting emergency services, strengthening the level of care we can provide to the community.

Between October and December last year, Nightcrew assisted more than 2,000 people, helping to avoid 73 ambulance call‑outs.

Thank you to St John Ambulance for your continued care and commitment to keeping our community safe.
