Serving with St John 💚
Meet Kim (left) one of our amazing volunteers who received a bronze commendation medal last year for her efforts with St John ACT. Kim tells us a little about what St John means to her below:
"I joined St John in 2019 to be part of a community dedicated to serving others, to make new friends, and to honour my late grandfather, who served with St John NSW for many years.
Since then, I’ve had the privilege of supporting people in vulnerable moments, providing care at a wide range of community events and activities—Matchbox Twenty with the Goo Goo Dolls was definitely a highlight—and more recently, assisting our Volunteer Training Group in helping others build their skills.
I'm incredibly proud of our teams and the role we play in keeping communities safe, easing the burden on professional services, and building resilience during challenging times like the 2019–2020 bush fires and the pandemic.
But at the end of the day, it’s the people you work with who make the experience what it is—the mix of backgrounds, the shared sense of purpose, and their willingness to roll with whatever crazy idea I come up with (sorry, not sorry, team). And while some days you leave a duty physically exhausted, your cup is usually full."
