Your child's face.

The words on a page you've read a hundred times.

Vision isn't just a sense, it's the way you're connected to the people and moments that matter most.

May is Healthy Vision Month, and we think it's the perfect reminder to treat your eye health the way you treat everything else important in your life, with a little intention.

When did you last have a comprehensive eye examination? Not just a prescription check, a proper look at the health of your eyes.

A simple way to monitor your central vision at home.

The Amsler grid is commonly used to help detect subtle changes in vision that may be associated with conditions affecting the macula, such as macular degeneration.

At Blink Eye Clinic, we specialise in the assessment and management of retinal and macular conditions, where early detection plays an important role in ongoing care.

To use the grid:
• Wear your reading glasses (if you use them)
• Hold the grid at a comfortable reading distance in good light
• Cover one eye and focus on the centre dot
• Notice whether any lines appear wavy, blurred, distorted, or missing
• Repeat with the other eye

If you notice any changes, it’s important to arrange an assessment with your optometrist or specialist.

Saving this post can make it easier to check your vision regularly.

Not all macular degeneration is the same, and the difference matters.

Dry AMD progresses slowly. Wet AMD can cause rapid, irreversible vision loss often within weeks without treatment.

If you or someone you love has been told they have AMD, understanding which type and acting early is everything.

Our team at Blink Eye Clinic specialises in macular assessment and treatment. Referrals welcome from GPs and optometrists across Canberra and the ACT region.

A vitrectomy is a type of microsurgical retinal procedure used to remove the vitreous gel inside the eye, allowing access to the retina.

It may be recommended to help manage a range of conditions affecting the back of the eye, including retinal detachment, epiretinal membrane, macular hole, or persistent floaters.

While it can sound complex, the procedure is performed using highly specialised microsurgical techniques, with each step carefully controlled.

If you’ve been advised to see a retinal specialist, understanding procedures like this can help you feel more informed and prepared when discussing your care.

Eye injections can feel confronting but the reality is very different.

Eye injections are a commonly performed procedure in ophthalmology and are used to help manage conditions such as macular degeneration and diabetic macular oedema.

Before the injection, the eye is carefully prepared and numbed. The procedure itself is quick and relatively painless, and your specialist will guide you through each step to help you feel as comfortable as possible.

If this treatment has been recommended, it’s common to have questions. A clear understanding of the process can help you feel more prepared and informed.
