The past two weeks have been very different to anything I have experienced before, making me unable to focus on any FB videos or posts, my apologies. Couple of days before my birthday on 29 October, my dad had a stroke and I ended up with him, unconscious, in the hospital. Dad has been transferred to rehab hospital yesterday, he is steadily recovering, but this whole process has taken myself and whole family through a roller-coaster of mixed emotions like fear, sadness, guilt, happiness, and gratitude. It was quite exhausting to experience so many of them in a relatively short time. And I just wanted today to share with you some reflections and tools I have been using.

• In life’s critical circumstances I knew I must put ‘oxygen mask’ on myself first, so to have enough energy and resources to cope and share it with people who needed my support. Sleep!, any type of rest and relaxation, rescue remedy, magnesium and potassium cell salts become my absolute priorities to support dealing with stress and sustain some energy.

• Daily faced with uncertainty, I kept thinking on best positive outcome, looking for stroke survivors’ stories with any type of a miracle, focusing that everything can be possible.

• I allow myself to open and share my emotions with my family and friends, their support made me feel so grounded.

• I gave myself permission to cry any time, I knew emotions would need to be released.

• I practice mindfulness by living one day at the time, some days one hour at the time.

• I have been using power of prayer with traditional orthodox, as well as Ho’oponopono prayer. (I will talk about this interesting tool in my future videos, but it was really amazingly how it would take my mind away from catastrophising).

• I tried to find any small things to be grateful for every day, as it was so clear to me that we never know what the next day may bring.

• All the stress release tools I have been sharing in my previous posts and videos were used and proven once again their effectiveness.

• I also discovered my favourite flower for now, it is a sunflower, as it feels like it smiles back anytime, anywhere, in any circumstances.
Be well! 🌞

Video 4- the Hi 5 habit, a great tool to connect better with yourself and become your own cheerleader, by Mel Robbins, from her recent book The Hi 5 Habit. Give it a go for 4-5 days. It may feel strange at the beginning, I actually cried, but definitely worth trying and experiencing the shift in becoming more focused and grounded and overall better friend with yourself. 😊

Yesterday I had a day when nothing felt right. I guess many of us have had these days when you wake up already dreading the day. There is general sense of overwhelming, with signs of despair and sabotage mixed with feelings of weepiness and sometimes anger. So how can we push through days like these?

I want to share with you one of the tools that helped me to get through yesterday. I knew that I had a challenging task at work to complete, and I did everything to prepare myself for it; having enough sleep, doing my usual morning routine, having a nutritious breakfast and yet nothing shifted much. I still did not want to face the day.

I decided to do some journaling to offload my thoughts, but the mixture of words coming in two languages looked too messy and I got even more annoyed that I couldn’t focus on anything.

I knew that I needed to do something to sustain the day. So I decided to try one of the tools recently offered by Mel Robbins, American motivational speaker, coach, and TV host in her new book - Hi 5 habits.

According to Mel, this simple and powerful tool can be used at any time when feeling anxious or overwhelmed. Even better, it can be used on any morning to assist in feeling more grounded and connected with yourself.

So what I did is pressed both of my hands crossed firmly to the centre of my chest and repeated these three phrases ‘I am ok! I am safe! I am loved!. I did this for as long as I needed and as many times as required throughout the day until I would feel a shift, usually a yawn or actual sensation of feeling calmer and clearer in my head.

So I survived yesterday, used it today, and most likely I will incorporate it into my daily routine.

Try it when you have similar days or feelings. Holding our hand close to our heart helps us to bring awareness from the world around us to the world inside us and helps us to feel safe. This is very powerful to know that we can take some control over ourselves on days when nothing feels right.

As the ACT lockdown restrictions are about to ease this October, there is still so much anxiety and unknown about what’s next. Not being in control creates mixed feelings that overwhelm and disappoint, and often the question pops into our heads- why is it all happening to us?
It’s been a very difficult and strange time for everybody, so anxiety has become a normal response to sudden changes in routine and adjusting to new circumstances.

Yet I believe the only thing we can really control now is ourselves and our reaction to external circumstances. To create more sense of control we might need to go within with compassion and focus on what we really need and how we can support ourselves in the best possible way.

Some helpful questions to ask yourself during the day might be – What am I thinking now?
What am I feeling now?
Where is my focus?
What do I need right now?

Think about what you might reassess, and add in your daily regime so you can take better care of yourself by:
-being gentle with ourselves by taking one day/step at the time
-establishing consistent routine
-getting sufficient sleep
-adding nutritious food
-keeping hydrated
-exercising gently
-engaging with our creative hobbies: i.e., dancing, drawing, painting, playing instruments
-being compassionate with ourselves and others.

These are just some of the actions that can help to ease the psychological and mental toll, and to prepare us more sustainably for whatever the future holds.

What past experience did I bring to Tap into Vitality?

I have always been fascinated by the body’s intelligence, performance and recovery processes and desire to learn, practice and share tools that can support our body and mind in a safe way to function more optimally.

In the past I was able to experience the body's physical and mental abilities for resilience, high performance and rehabilitation after sustaining a number of injuries through my career as an elite athlete, playing European handball professionally in Russia for 10 years.
As an athlete, in addition to variety of trainings 2-3 times a day, sports massages were used to support the physical aspects of performance. Deep breathing and visualisation were also used to support my mental performance. My interest in anatomy and physiology was also born then, while completing Bachelor of Physical Education and Coaching.
After coming to Australia in 1998 I gained a deeper understanding of body-mind connections and the body’s ability to self-regulate and regenerate, from my study and practice of Remedial Massage, Bowen and Emmett therapies, use of Biochemic tissue salts and Wellness coaching.

Our body is a brilliant network of organs and systems that are working together so intelligently to support and sustain our life. We don’t even lift a finger while every single day our heart pumps around 7,200 litres of blood. Every minute 25 million cells are produced in the body. Our posture supported by 600 individual muscles while 200 muscles are used to take only one step. Our nose is able to remember around 50,000 different smells. About 23,040 breath a day on average is taken. Our nervous system is a complex network of billions of nerve cells, that gathers and relays information about your surroundings to brain and nervous system at a speed of 70-120 meters per second, and so much more. These amazing facts make me feel even more in deep appreciation of our amazing body and mind and how it is all connected.

If you like to learn and understand more about how we function, I would highly recommend to check out very insightful Netflix series Human: The world within.

Why I consider RESCUE REMEDY Spray (Bach Flower Remedies) as my first aid for emotional support.

As stress becoming more prominent in our daily life, I believe our body more than ever needs some safe and gentle ways to be supported on mental, physical and emotional levels.
Being a holistic practitioner, I came across a variety of such methods, and one of my favourites is a Rescue Remedy, created in 1930 by the English physician Edward Bach.

I love that it is a safe, gentle and effective tool that is readily available for anyone at many shops or pharmacies. It is not a magic pill, but the way to support our body to cope with stress more effectively.

In my daily life I use it when I feel stressed, tense or worried, to calm myself when I have some sad news, for any injury, before tooth extractions or any surgical procedures. For children it is a good support during tantrums, nightmares, when feeling fearful or anxious (eg tests, exams, competitions, social media pressures), injuries or bee stings. In the past I used it on my dog and cat to calm during illness or storms.

The spray form is my favourite option as it can be used either directly on the tongue or if preferred, sprayed on the inner part of either wrists, so to be readily absorbed by the skin, this would also be the best way for kids, as well as pets. Alternatively, it can be just sprayed in the air.

Rescue remedy has 5 remedies in the bottle (out of 38 plant and flower-based components). These are specifically designed as an emergency treatment to help people to cope with every day stressful situations, and to get calm and centred. Specifically, these 5 are for *terror and panic (Rock Rose), *irritability and impatience (Impatiens), *inattentiveness (Clematis), *shock (Star of Bethlehem), *to promote calmness and mental clarity (Cherry Plum).
I personally was so fascinated by these remedies I did a course, learning how to use all 38 of them.

I believe as more we are open to discover and try these types of safe holistic approaches, understanding that it is just a supporting tool to shift and improve our emotional states, as more resilient our body can become to manage emotional demands of life, especially during uncertain times.

What level do you feel your vitality is at? Do you have any self-care routine? When did you last prioritise your own well-being needs and recognised that when you are feeling lighter, happier and calmer, you and everyone around you benefits?

Vitality is a state of being where we feel energetic, lively and powerful. There are physical, mental and emotional types of vitality and all are essential to our wellbeing.

Being in lockdown with what seems to be an unpredictable future makes many of us feel fearful, anxious, overwhelmed, ‘deflated’, exhausted and lost, with many among us experiencing clear signs of burnout. Yet, we need to keep going, balancing our work and home commitments and everything else required, often forgetting to take care of ourselves and neglecting our own needs.

As a wellness practitioner and coach, my passion is to SUPPORT women in cultivating their own unique pathway to feeling better physically, emotionally and mentally. In the last 10 years of my journey and practice as a Bowen and Massage practitioner, Cell salts practitioner and recently adding to this- wellness coach certification, I have studied, practiced and shared with my clients a wide variety of holistic tips, tools and practices that can support your body at all levels, and can be implemented in addition to your conventional medical care.

In my next few posts, I want to share with you some of my favourite self-care tips, tools and strategies that are simple, easy, safe and effective and can be used on yourself (DIY), your family members (or pets even) to reduce stress, create better balance and energy, optimise your vitality and prevent burnout.
