Like all professionals, Yoga Teachers and Therapists need to undertake professional development (PD) if they choose to be registered with a regulating body, maintain currency with new approaches to teaching/service delivery and meet the needs of students.
But how do you know which PD to take?
*Is cheaper (or expensive) better?
*Is the training you are looking at scrutinised and registered by a reputable organisation?
*Does the principal teacher have knowledge and experience in the PD subject matter as well as the development and delivery of adult learning environments?
*Is the PD for yoga teachers/therapists, or can anyone enrol?
*Is there rigor in the structure of the PD and assessment tasks?
*Are you able to apply the PD learning immediately?
*Do you get certification that means something. as well as ongoing support if needed?
This is a complex decision, and your resources (time and money) are precious. Your choice of PD should be linked to your business goals and fill a gap in your current knowledge and skills.
If learning how to deliver accessible, inclusive and adapted yoga is something you are keen to explore, my online Chair Yoga PD is running from 13-20 July, 2024. Contact sessions will run from 1-5pm (AEST) each day so you can fit your learning around your family, responsibilities and teaching and comfortably access the sessions in the east or west of the country. Online sessions are limited to 4 hours to manage our energy and reduce excessive screen-time.
This PD was developed in 2016 as a 50 hour in-person PD and has evolved to meet the needs and respond to feedback from Yoga Teachers and Therapists. The PD is registered as Approved Professional Development with Yoga Australia, which means there is external scrutiny and quality assurance. I have taught chair yoga in general community, aged care, dementia care, corporate, school and prison settings.
There are options for 25 hours (2 modules), 37.5 hours (3 modules) or 50 hours (4 modules) of study, with contact and non-contact requirements. Modules focus on different demographics, so you can choose the modules that are relevant for you. There are pre-PD, in-PD and post-PD tasks to consolidate the learning in contact sessions. You will be able to apply the learning immediately after each module and the PD is designed to honor your authentic teaching style and school/lineage.
This PD requires participants to have completed at minimum 200 hours of yoga teacher training. I assume that you know the theory and practice of yoga and know how to plan and deliver a yoga class. So, we can get straight into the nitty gritty and no-one will be left behind :)
So, if you are ready for some advanced teaching and ready to expand your business by providing yoga to under-served community demographics, reach out for a free 15-minute zoom chat to see if what I am offering meets your needs, or email me for the PD overview with dates, times, prices and PD content.
This will be the last PD for 2024.
