Goodwin Board Impressed by Goodwin Village Downer Progress! 🏡✨

We were delighted to host the Goodwin Board and Executive team yesterday for a site visit at our Goodwin Village Downer development.

The feedback was overwhelmingly positive! The Board was impressed with how well the site is progressing. It's fantastic to see that most apartments are now complete, giving a clear vision of what our future residents will enjoy.

A huge thank you to the Manteena team for their exceptional work and keeping everything on track. We are still on schedule for a March completion.

Stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to welcoming our new Downer community!

Christmas Joy Alert! 🎄🚌 Our Christmas spirit is overflowing!

The Mix 106.3 and Transport Canberra "Pack the Bus" came to Goodwin Village Monash this week to collect our incredible haul of non-perishable food and gifts, all collected throughout November for Communities at Work!

This record-breaking effort was a true community achievement, thanks to our collective team: our Residential, Retirement, and Day Club teams, along with our amazing family and friends.

And the best news? We have officially recorded the highest donations for one stop so far in this year's "Pack the Bus"! 🎉

Go team! Thank you to every single person who contributed to making Christmas magical for those in need. ❤️

Yesterday we held our Annual General Meeting.
It was an important occasion marked by robust discussions, where we valued our members' input and ensured their voices were heard.

The voting process delivered clear outcomes for the year ahead, laying the foundation for Goodwin to continue serving our community as a leading aged care provider in the ACT and Greater Capital Region.

During the meeting, we also confirmed the appointment of Ms Fiona Jolly as our new Board Chair and released our 2024–25 Annual Activity Statement.

📌Leadership update at Goodwin
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Ms Laurann Yen, who has retired as Goodwin’s Board Chair after 11 years of outstanding service, and to Mr David Murphy, who also concluded his tenure on the Board. Their leadership and dedication have helped shape Goodwin’s success and stability.

Our Story

Goodwin is Canberra’s largest and longest serving local specialist in retirement living and seniors' care. Established in 1954, the not-for-profit organisation governed by a skills-based board and owned by its members, for its members, provides leading-edge residential aged care and retirement living options at villages in Ainslie, Monash, Farrer and Crace. Goodwin also provides home care services and seniors' Day Clubs across the ACT and regional southern NSW.

Superior service, facilities and clinical care capabilities set Goodwin apart. We believe that every person should have quality of life and the opportunity to stay productive in their community.

Goodwin has its roots in a women's community group, the National Council of Women who in 1954 began a campaign to ensure Canberra's seniors gained dedicated housing and support. Twelve community leaders formed a committee to pursue this ambitious idea, fundraising and lobbying for some years until opening Canberra's first residential aged care facility and seniors' housing, in Ainslie. They adopted the name Goodwin in honour of Lt Col John Goodwin, a renowned public servant and a tireless advocate of seniors’ rights.

Goodwin has come a long way since. Today Goodwin serves around 2500 seniors and continues to set benchmarks in quality aged care, partnering with research organisations on new care methodologies, and winning numerous awards for its retirement living villages and modern, sustainably designed apartments.
